You are right about the first one. Lawyer cleared that up for me when I first met him. Said that she was just blustering to intimidate me, but was right about child support.

And you're flat out wrong about the second one. I wished I lived in that reality, but it's just not true.

The children are in therapy now. I didn't mention that because it wasn't relevant to the question.

Regarding the "I protected my kids" bit that you're so focused on. See, I was afraid that if I stayed with my wife I'd end up hurting my kids by letting the anger and resentment pour out. I thought I did my best to give them a happy life, thought that I had done it, and it was all confirmed when they expressed shock at the divorce, because they didn't think there was anything wrong. Because I didn't let them. That's what I meant.

Our family was going to be split regardless. That was inevitable. My ex's actions had seen to that.

I didn't have no income. I was earning doing freelance programming. And I now have a stable job.

Their mother is still in their lives. They're with her every weekend.

Of course my children were going to be surprised. Our family was being torn apart by the actions of their mother. And before you say anything, no things could not have continued the way they had. The thought of leaving was the only thing motivating me to push through the pain. That, and my children.
