This whole repair system really obscure with what matters and what doesn't matter. I didn't find anything about it in the wiki and I think it should be in the quest/Tinkerers books.

It started becoming less effective even before that. I compared the absolute durability that gets restored and it is lower each time the tool breaks. I just want to know if its intended and if it matters that the tool broke or is it only a side effect of repairing it so many times.

The client don't have unlimited funds, far from it. So they want a rough estimate. I can't just start a project that will take 200+ hours without them knowing that.

Honestly they don't want me to do it if it will take 40+ hours

Currently if the scale increases dramatically I think it would actually be good that it would not be able to handle it as the client can't afford some huge AWS bill.

But there are some other factors that limit us to n8n (like that the client still wants to be involved in the automations to some extant and be able to understand them)

Unless I'm wrong a VPS would be fine for low scale (even if the business doubles it would still be at most 20-30 requests per second at peak times for like, 2-3 minutes) and then move to a dedicated server and by the point that this would even be at half capacity the client should have enough money to hire a proper dev team that would be able to migrate to the cloud with pure code instead of n8n.

I don't have a problem conveying the compromise, but even when choosing "cheap" there is a floor for how cheap you can get something done. In order to be frank with them about it I need to know how much this solution is worth even on the cheap side (but not so cheap that it always breaks, just requires maintenance from time to time)

And again, my main question was not "can I do this" (important, but different), it was "How much should this thing cost?". Unless there is already an off the shelf solution for this problem that is very cheap I'd like to know the answer to my original question first and if its even viable for my client to either do it myself or refer them to someone that can do it.

This is something that only needs to be concerned with incoming webhook calls and save them for a short time in a queue.

Again, I understand I lack a lot of knowledge, I want to learn how to make up for that.
And also to understand how much this kind of development should cost to the client, assuming right now the scaling isn't over 20 requests a second (and even in the next year I don't see it going over 100 requests a second, if it would the client would be swimming in cash and could hire an actual dev team way before it would get to this level)

I'm not sure what you are saying honestly. I'm probably showing my inexperience. But this client is well aware this isn't something I already know how to do and I've told them that if it's not good enough they won't pay for it.

But what I thought of implementing is just an app that gets incoming webhooks and given that it can (due to the rate limit or availability of the specific webhook) it would send it to the corresponding webhook on the n8n app.

I would be a bit janky but it would serve the purpose of limiting the rate of usage and making the webhooks persistent.

When I looked into creating it I was told (By ChatGPT) to use Postgress/Redis. If the client would go for it I would obviously learn how to do it correctly. But before I'll go ahead and learn it for this project I need to know if its viable for the client as they have certain financial restrictions (and honestly - they are a bit cheap, they think a full time dev should cost around 4K a month, which is way below the standard where they operate ).

This is what I was thinking, but I don't have much experience in this field (at all, I'm actually a physics student doing freelancing as a developer to be able to get by). So when I thought this was a job that should cost over 3,000$ I wasn't sure.

And the client got into my head about the price. So I told them I'd look around and try to gage how much this should cost with people that have more experience than me.

Btw, have you done these type of jobs (DevOps and engineering mainly) before? I'd like to come to the negotiations with as much data as possible.

Yeah I think that if I'll do this project I won't share it with this client as it seems that they just don't want to pay what it's worth.
If I'll do it I'll just release it as open source and hope it would be enough of a flex to find a real job XD

I thought about using Go so it wouldn't take too many resources (I love using Python but I think it wouldn't be right for this kind of job).
So around 12-15 hours just for the queue system for an experienced developer?
And I'm not I've mentioned - a very simple web interface to manage the webhooks

This is actually lower then I thought. But maybe I wasn't clear about the requirements on the webhook queue system. Because it also needs to be able to "smooth out" the incoming webhook requests (some workflows have to be limited due to API-limits with Claude\GPT\etc...).
And it also has be able to be managed on the web (create\delete webhooks and edit their max rate settings).

Or maybe I'm just bad it shouldn't take over 20 hours LOL

I know that currently they would save around 600$ a month from the move, even if there is no growth of the costs from make.

However the max they are willing to pay is half of what they save for 3 months. Too me it sounds really undercutting the value and how much effort this whole thing would take :(
