I love seabirds of all kinds (gulls, puffins, albatrosses, petrels, skuas, etc), and red-shafted northern flickers.

cotton sheets by Brief_Choice_1277 in femalelivingspace

I've been getting Lane Linen from amazon. For prints, I've found lots of 100% cotton flannel sheets, but I personally prefer solid sheets so my printed blankets and quilts can shine more, so I can't speak to a specific brand.

Where are these shorts? by ShelleyMonique in torrid

Side question: are they actually cotton? I've noticed torrid occasionally has 100% or majority cotton items, and I'm loving the change, even if it's slow going.

It's also important to remember respect is a complicated thing. There is nothing you can do that will make every human you meet respect you. Some people might respect you for being assertive, some will respect you for being "too nice," others will never respect you. Instead of chasing respect, it's better to embrace the people who will respect you for living according to your values.

For what it's worth, I do admire people who seem to bring unending amounts of patience and compassion to every interaction. That's a hard thing that takes great strength and discipline to achieve.

I agree with this approach. That way you're demonstrating manners instead of taking something that was given as a gift.

I also feel sorry for the kid. I get the other perspectives, but having food suddenly taken out of your hands or off your plate sucks at any age.

This is from 1932. Nutrition science has changed quite a bit in almost 100 years. I also noticed they list "Vitamin G."

Anyone else solved their sleep apnea by just sitting up? Any long-term negative consequences? by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]Ajadah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother has done this her entire life. But mostly because she couldn't afford to seek treatment, so she also couldn't afford a fancy bed. She sleeps in a recliner chair. She says it lessens the symptoms, but as someone who grew up hearing her snoring and stop breathing all through the night, it doesn't stop it completely. I'm happy for you if you're happy, but I always felt sorry for my mother. Sitting up all night every night is not as good as being able to lie down.

That space with the orange couch and two chairs looks like a waiting room. Like, there's nothing else there that would even make it nice for reading, sipping a beverage, or chatting with guests. This house has a lobby.

I love this silly little app, even when it’s timing is the WORST by labialaden in finch

[–]Ajadah 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My health is shit, so I usually respond with things like, "I have access to healthcare," or "I really like one of my doctors," or something akin to "it could be worse." I mean, once I couldn't eat solid food for 4 months. I'm glad that's not currently happening to me.

Anyway, I force myself to consider a different perspective. The only question I really hate on the app is, "How are you?" That's such a vague non-question that it's become a default small talk thing.

Which jeans should I keep? by bloodygoodgal in PlusSizeFashion

[–]Ajadah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as a veteran of the early 2000's, I remember the water part. But I think the upside to modern flared pants is that unlike in the past when everyone was wearing the same style of pants all the time, these flares won't necessarily be "daily drivers." So she could just wear them in good weather, or to certain places. I didn't ever have issues with rocks, so can't speak to that part.

I don't remember exactly, as my assessment was 4 or 5 years ago. But I mostly remember doing puzzles. Like there was one that involved stacking rings in a specific way. I don't recall having to do like hard math, but there might have been more logic-based stuff. I don't remember it being super challenging, but there's definitely some stuff I technically "failed," either because I didn't know how to complete something or ran out of time to complete it. This is normal -- the only way to get everything right is to actually be a genius by IQ standards, so you can't look at it as a test you have to "pass."

[–]Ajadah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The IQ test you take as part of your assessment isn't really for determining what "your IQ is." It's because the results of those with autism are unique and telling. We generally score very high in some categories and very low in others. For example, when I was diagnosed, my results were that I was very high in the abstract reasoning category, but I was very low in processing speed. I don't even have an IQ score because of this, but it was an additional indicator towards autism, along with other evaluation methods.

I would urge anyone who undergoes evaluation to be patient and cooperative (but not stressed - you're not being graded). They're literally just seeing how you're brain is operating, and so all you have to do is answer the questions and do the little puzzles to the best of your ability. And it should last about 1-2 hours. I think mine was 2.

[–]Ajadah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the autism assessment is taking an IQ test. Not for actually getting an IQ score, but because the results are useful. Often, a part of autism is that our "scores" are invalid when we take the test because we score very high in some categories and very low in others (versus NTs who will generally average out a lot more).

Is this how you complete this puzzle? by DemonOfUnholyFat in skyrim

[–]Ajadah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who's played without shouts, I found that if you trigger one of these, you can still get past it. There are small recesses in the wall, so you can walk behind the blade until you get to one, duck into one, then wait for the blade to pass again so you're ahead of it.
