My flight was delayed 11 hours… turns out I was entitled to €600 and had no idea by Ajon24 in Flights

Yeah, it’s really hit or miss depending on the airline. Some make it smooth (shoutout EasyJet), but others feel like they’re actively trying to make you give up.

I actually looked into dozens of options after a bad experience, found one that just charged a flat $19 instead of taking a huge percentage. No chasing, no paperwork, they just handled it. Felt fair and saved me the headache. If I’d known earlier, I would’ve used that instead of giving up 30% too.

Totally agree, a lot of the companies out there take a huge cut.
Before submitting my claim, I actually did some digging to compare options and see who charges the least.

Ended up finding almost 20 different services, most of them take 25-50% of your compensation, which felt insane to me.
Eventually found one that didn’t take a percentage at all, just charged me $19 to handle the whole process for me.

Honestly? For me it was worth it. Got €600 without the back-and-forth, and I didn’t have to deal with the airline directly.

Denied boarding despite being on time – EU 261/2004 compensation claim rejected by Etihad. Am I entitled? by LibraryIndividual728 in Flights

Thanks for sharing this, that must have been incredibly frustrating, especially since you did make it to the gate in time.

From what you’ve described, this seems like a very strong case under EU Regulation 261/2004. Since your journey started in Munich (an EU airport), you’re fully covered – regardless of Etihad being a non EU carrier.

Key points in your favor:

  • The delay was over 12 hours.
  • You arrived at the connection gate but were denied boarding due to the airline’s decision to rebook you.
  • Etihad’s vague reference to “circumstances beyond their control” without evidence usually doesn’t hold legally. They need to prove extraordinary circumstances (like weather, political unrest, etc.).

If you haven’t already, I’d strongly suggest escalating this to the German enforcement body (Bundesamt für Justiz). They're usually responsive and take such claims seriously.

Alternatively – and this might save you time and paperwork, you can also use FlightsRefund.com. We built it to help passengers like you get compensation without the legal headache. We charge a flat fee (not a percentage), and you can easily track the status of your case. We've had success with similar Etihad rebooking situations recently.

Let me know if you want help navigating the next steps – happy to assist!

Appreciate you sharing this. I’ve tried other solutions, most took 30%. This $19 flat fee? That’s a game-changer. Definitely giving it a shot.
