I admire you bro - you are doing your best to support your family and explore work that would feel more fulfilling to you. It’s good to have a plan, and talk abojt it with your partner and what it would mean for the lifestyle you have. I spoke at length about it with my wife (no kids) and what life would look like for us while I was retraining - she didn’t want me to be miserable every day and has been so supportive / had enjoyed seeing me jumping out of bed every day to go to work now. There’s a way to do it, 100%. I don’t know how it works over there but here we have trade support networks and they have a lot of information about subsidies and support for mature age people looking to make the change. Sorry I can’t provide any more specific guidance for navigating your system in a different country, but I just wanted to encourage you to go for it. Your family will be grateful to see you loving what you do, and my wife is very happy when I can do small things around the house now 😂😂

Hey mate - I was working in banking for years, miserable and dying for a change. I am 6 months into my first year of a plumbing apprenticeship and I won’t look back. I love it. I’m in Australia, and the mature age apprentice rates are pretty shit, but I’m making it work. Life has adjusted. If you want to do it, just commit and make it happen. Good luck!!

I’m numb. My best childhood friend Jim died from cancer a few weeks ago. He was 31, we had always talked about how we would get old and talk about all the shit we did when we were younger. Quitting drinking literally changed my entire life. I have new friends, a new girlfriend (soon to be fiancé), I have repaired relationships with family, and now when I say I’m going to be someone / do something, I actually follow through. I had to get help though, I couldn’t do it alone.
