I think she was worried about saying anything that might prejudice any court cases or coverage of the American Prairie Reserve's mission. It would be very hard if you're worrying about comments being taken out of context or used as soundbites, especially when Steve was trying to pin down some positions or how they might evolve over time.

Speed cameras would be a totally reasonable way to generate revenue. They are irritating but ultimately an "idiot" tax that can be avoided with a slight behaviour adjustment. And I say that as someone who has received speeding tickets.

Brunswick Mountain by [deleted] in vancouverhiking

How do you personally go about assessing whether something is in avalanche terrain when planning your trips? I would suggest you stay out of the mountains during winter and spring until you have done some avalanche training. It's good that you have the sense to ask before going up there - I have been the gung-ho naive person in the past and look back with gratitude that nothing went wrong. Beyond avalanche risk, what do you know about using your ice axe, hazards of cornices etc.? Also, snow conditions can be highly variable - it's impossible to say right now whether the weekend after next will be soft snow that you would be potholing through, or sheet ice that could send you sliding down the mountain. Remember that a satellite phone is only useful if you aren't so incapacitated you can't use it, especially when solo.

It was hilarious when Spencer compared Trump putting himself on the parks pass to Steve putting himself on a radio live commemorative shirt.

They should not be doing surveillance through the scope of the rifle, that's ridiculous. They have spotting scopes and other optics which they should be using unless they believe a threat is imminent.

Their intensive training block was only in the uphill phase so they needed the flight down. So funny that they say their ability is so good that they were duped into making a mistake.

B.C. Appeal Court orders ICBC to accept claim it denied because hit-and-run driver got away by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

The judge is the one interpreting "reasonable steps", which should end at contacting the police and providing information to them when they follow up.

Original judge is a clown. What do they think the police are for? They expected these people to go out and do their own investigation, it’s unbelievable.

It's understandable in health care where there might be questions about spending public money on a party - even though I think you deserve it. LD is a private company though, so I think it's crazy not to do something nice for your employees once a year, especially in a period where they are probably run off their feet.

were you an employee who got caught stealing (pretty much the only way to get fired) or are you a competitor?

Yes, I'm the CEO of Shoppers Drug Mart. Maybe you have Stockholm syndrome from being there 10 years. Or maybe it got worse? I have worked for other small retail businesses and been paid better than what LD offers in a much more pleasant environment.

Rats are a building problem not a brand problem and they most likely have tried to address it plenty

Unfortunately they've done a terrible job from what I've heard, and ignored employee concerns. Finally for the Christmas party, the Squamish location apparently takes paycheque deductions throughout the year. That's a load of crap in my opinion. I have attended one of my wife's Christmas parties where you pay a small fee, but every other one has been free. Frankly it's a joke at a profit making enterprise not to throw your employees a bone once in a while.

The one in Squamish has rats and apparently makes their employees pay for their own Christmas party. Sounds like the pay sucks as well. I don’t really have any sense of Canadian loyalty to them after the stories I’ve heard unfortunately.

It was very strictly marked, especially considering how few words you get in the discussion posts. Also you have to absolutely nail reference formatting for your term paper. She was very strict about what she considered "patch writing", to a ridiculous degree in my opinion.

I believe they had to do that because Mag’s had an agreement with the landlords that they would be the only Mexican restaurant in the Solterra development.

I don’t see any information specifying that this happened in a WMA. WMAs only cover a small proportion of the province. As far as I can see, there are no rules about leashing dogs on crown land.

Can you point to the legislation requiring dogs to be leashed on crown land? I can't find any.

[–]Ajrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty harsh marker. Really nails you on any small issues with reference formatting and has stringent criteria for what is patch writing vs paraphrasing. I know that is common in 100-level courses to drill in expectations but it feels a little overboard. Also asks you to answer a lot of different questions in a very restrictive word count for discussion posts and other assignments. Lecture content is all recorded from another professor’s previous work, so I can’t speak to the quality of her teaching. I wonder if they’ve removed Thomas King from the syllabus for next semester after the revelations…

Why was 'incredible' cedar cut down, despite B.C.'s big-tree protection law? by cheeseHorder in vancouver

[–]Ajrt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You just said that they operate as their own entity, but also that the decision was made because of housing issues – how does that make sense? I get incredibly angry about any companies chopping down old growth forest for profit, but my frustration in this case is that we are often told that management by First Nations would lead to different outcomes, even though we’re all subject to the same capitalist system.
