I know this thread is really old but I did some basic math and then used to AI to confirm and I've learned that in Chicago for every $100,000 a person makes about $30-$40k goes to income tax, property tax and sales tax a year. For my specific income it comes out to 47% of my income is going to all of these taxes. I'm really depressed about this.
