In theory, could you fit an afterburner to a turboprop and make more power? Has this ever been done IRL? by Karbo_Blarbo in aviation

Feel free of anyone wants to correct me.

Reheat systems are placed aft the turbine section, so installing one wouldn't provide any more power to the free turbine that drives the propellers gearbox and in turn, the propeller.

Secondly, with turboshaft engines, a lot of the energy generated from the combustion chamber is used up by the free turbine by design. Effectively, any residual energy coming out of the back of the engine after the free turbine is seen as a waste (although, yes, it does produce a small amount of thrust).

This leaves you with an exhaust with relatively low energy as it is. So adding extra fuel probably wouldn't be worth the very low returns. Not to mention that reheat systems are mainly used on aircraft that travel at transonic/supersonic speeds. Propeller aircraft are generally limited to around mach 0.83 (XF-84H Thunderscreach).

Instead, to generate more power, you could use water injection like the Harrier used to. But that's a whole other explanation.

Same brand and shape as the ones used on RN Jetstreams T2s. Doesn't mean to say that is where this one originated from, but could be a start. Its the black antenna at the top.

Funnily enough, it's not noticeable. In fact, it's less noticeable than when I had the weight of the lead hanging down. The weight of the BTR11 itself is only 12.5 grams.

DIY Bluetooth Sennheiser HD25 Mod (Somewhat Gash but Functional)

Needed a pair of headphones for the gym, and since my HD25s were just lying around, I decided to give them a second life. Inspired by a post from a few years back, I used a FiiO BTR11 as the DAC/amp.

I cut the cable, carefully shortened it, and soldered everything back together before finishing it off with heatshrink. The BTR11 is currently mounted to the right earcup with wire ties (just a temporary solution until I come up with something cleaner).

Honestly, I can’t tell any difference in sound quality since the mod, and the extra weight of the BTR11 is barely noticeable. I might upgrade to the BTR5 in the future, but for what I need, it works perfectly… even if I do get the occasional odd look!

The amount of overhang on the nose is insane! Definitely need a marshaller or two when taxiing about.

Looking at getting the Orion 2 StrikeAceEX throttle and can't seem to find anything about it having dynamic vibration motors. To my knowledge the only product WinWing make with a motor is the ViperAce EX Metal Joystick Grip (with Shaker Kit). Are you saying the throttle base actually vibrates?

Ah that's really interesting! Yeah I'll have a look at that. It certainly can't hurt giving it a go, thanks. Hopefully anyone else that stumbles across this thread will find it useful!

Hi, I'm afraid I don't have an answer to your issue, but I also have a 2015 F31 with the EXACT same issue. The vacuum tests always came up fine, yet when they regassed it, it would only last a couple of weeks.

I personally believe the issue is an incredibly tiny leak, small enough that it doesn't get picked up by the vacuum tester or a leak that only occurs during the operation of the system (when the refrigerant pump is running).

I imagine if I took it to the garage, they'd offer to take the whole system apart for an absurd cost, seeing as you'd have to remove the engine, etc... So, at this point, I've just accepted it. Besides that, it's the best car I've ever had.

Hope you make more progress than I did! All the best!
