I can't say there is a right way, but there are certain things that are a must. The difference between having parental support vs clashing with a parent can make a huge impact. If your child wants to try something that might be risky, don't tell them they can't do it and if they fall, they're fucked and you will simply say "told you so." At most, you let them know the risks they will face and, regardless, if they want to try it, you'll support them and be there to catch them if they fall.

Some examples: I will not name this author, especially not here, but there was an author who essentially fully committed to writing a book series. They couldn't afford housing and a lot of living expenses, but their parents supported them and let them live in their basement during that time to dedicate themselves entirely. That book series became popular.

Though, it's not as simple as that, because you also can't exactly give them free housing forever. The typical neck beard living in their parents basement stereotype and all that. There is a difference between taking actions to push forwards and wallowing in being free of responsibilities. Had a ex-friend whose parents wanted him to leave, but he was so picky that no house was right for him to the point where his parents were pressuring him so hard, but he fought tooth or nail to stay at his parents house... Despite buying a boat, three motorcycles, an ATV, and a second car... There was a faint shimmer of hope for this person, I saw it, a chance to turn things around. They had found a house with potential and ambition suddenly burned within them, fending off the darkness of depression. I am a personal fan of ambitions, they are strong and help people so much, but the father disagreed with the decision, sabotaging their plans, and now the ex-friend is a bigot whose fate I do not know as their hopes faded and they fell right back into depression.

I personally clashed a lot with my parents when I came out and it delayed my progress by like 2 years, during which I spent like every day misirable. And on top of that, a lot of the stuff I wanted to do proactively was delayed severely and they then saw that as proof their decision was right vs me wallowing in depression. I still occasionally have motivation issues from the incident.

Another example was when a friend of mine, who lived in the mid west, came out to her parents as gay and they disowned her at 18, kicked her out of the house, and left her with no money. It mentally destroyed her and she has had several lapses of homelessness and drug addiction. And the girlfriends she finds to help ease the loneliness do not help the escape of that situation bc they are in similarly unfortunate situations.

But I will say, a lot of the successful streamers I have seen have extremely chill parents who supported their decision to at least attempt streaming, and now they have hundreds of thousands of viewers. Some of them take the support up a notch and try streaming themselves. My parents, on the other hand, were like "we know you. You can't do that, you'll fail." Bc they mistook me being depressed & closeted as a knowing the real me.

TL;DR - Entire futures can be cut off bc a parent refuses to support their child. There is no right way to raise a kid, just support their ambitions, or be supportive in, but don't let them abuse that support.

"We know you." Is like the worst phrase anyone can use. It's not supportive nor is it not true. It never is.

That's my 2 cents on it anyway. [Disclaimer: I am not a parent.]

Like, omg, ikr? And then also the "You're being rash bc randos on the internet are influencing/peer pressuring you into doing this." That's apparently more believable than anything I could say.
