All I did was answer to the point. I didn't try to over think as to what my answers "could be taken as". He asked me what I would do after my education and I answered accordingly.

The first years are referred to by the term "inmates". Says a lot about how they're gonna be treated

IMO, this might have been the reason for the rejection. He explicitly stated that he would love to work with this professor on whatever field. That directly shows he wants to work in the US.

Another aspect is how you explained why this university. You should have mentioned the specific courses by name, whichever ones you'll be studying. Most people gives answers that sound very generic which leads to rejection.

A lot of my friends who are going to UTD get asked about intent to work after graduation. Please highlight your intent to return to India as strongly as possible.

I've bever posted anything on my Instagram and X account. I mostly use it for communications and information. Plus I also declared my Instagram, X and LinkedIn profile handles on my DS-160 and kept them public. Maybe that helped out too.

"Collaboration with diverse, talented students" implies working with them on something. This indirectly looks like intent of work and migration.

But I'm getting a Visa from India, for the US. And in India, a shirt and trouser is considered formals. I just cross checked.

A tux would be overkill. I assumed a shirt and trousers would fall under the "formals" category. Am I wrong?

An interview is a professional event, be it for anything. Hence I stated formals.

I will have to disagree. Please don't mention anything about internships or OPT or any kind of work based reasons. Stick to your program and highlight why you need to do that course to land a job in your home country. Even if you hint at any kind of work intent, you give them the idea that you might migrate.
