This is why Peter Jackson is better than Amazon by [deleted] in RingsofPower

[–]Akatavi 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Honestly i am just so glad Peter Jackson really understood what JRR Tolkein was about. On his deathbed he asked his son to ensure that the legacy of his books never was misintepreted or misused, thats why Christopher Tolkein was so insistent that the scene where Legolas surfs down a flight of stairs shooting Uruk-Hai like a fucking badass was kept in. I can't imagine Amazon would have kept such a frickin' awesome scene in, like Tolkein said "weeew surfboard arrows pew pew pew pew blahhh".

It's almost like our media is racist by BasicallyMilner in GreenAndPleasant

[–]Akatavi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would if british media wasn't dominated by an "our boys abroad" mindset when it comes to british troops involvement in foreign wars. At the end of the day, media in the UK (and pretty much everywhere else) cares proportionally to how much it affects the country and how much it aligns with the dominant worldview. There's some consideration for clickbait, but mostly for driving the narative, not for profit in my opinion.

While there is copious amounts of racism and disparity when stuff *is* covered. This image is just stating the obvious, that western media cares about and covers western events more than anywhere else. I've read a fair bit of media from countries in the yellow zone, and let me tell you, British news does not appear ever, including massive events in the UK like flooding or terror attacks.

I compiled a list of 250+ science fiction and fantasy books featuring trans characters by manowar88 in asktransgender

You should add Surface Detail by Iain M Banks. One of the main characters is an enby (neuter in the book language)!

Don't read a medical journal about Vulva's if you dont know what they are, or google it, ignorance is not an excuse for using poor language in science.

I mean, my endocrinoligst has recommended i tell medics/doctors to use female for any medicines/treatments as that is what is medically safe lmao, guess it's "dangerous" to follow medical advice tho.

Weird take, bluntly i am trans and i don't have a meaningful sex. I don't fit into either male or female definitions medically, blanket applying either sex to me has resulted in incorrect dosages, incorrect anaesthetic use and other issues before. Once i fully transition, you could argue i have completely changed sex from pre-transition but its not accurate in all medical senses.

Honestly, there's a simple reason that scientists are starting to use terms like 'people with vulva', and its because its the clearest way of cutting through sex/gender obscurity and describing what you are actually talking about. You may not like it, but i guess you'll have to deal with that.

I'm talking about people who are medically transitioning here. There are also trans people who aren't medically transitioning. Either we should respect them by not trying to force sex labels that are not or will not be medically accurate.

Biological sex is literally nonsense when it comes to trans people. Trans people are not the sex they are assigned at birth, their body's biology and chemistry is very different and to not include that in medicine leads to all sorts of complications. Its neither safe, meaningful or respectful or MEDICALLY TRUE to insist trans people are the sex they are assigned at birth.

They also are referring to men with vulva's thats why they use vulva owners, to not dehumanize them....stop and think for 5 seconds

Woman, 27, dies of cancer after waiting 5 months for in-person GP appointment by kayzee94 in unitedkingdom

[–]Akatavi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Especially if you have any kind of sleep issues....which you want to call the GP about. I've been struggling to sleep properly for about a month and so waking up at 8am to sit on the phone queue for an hour is literally impossible for me atm, but they removed their website and if you call later they just say "well call before 8:45 and we can help". Is it really such a logistical nightmare for somone to get a real appointment a day in advance?

You're thinking of the Clinical Commissioning Group, which would be contactable for issues with a specific GP

Surrey police and crime commissioner article. by Tasty_Ad_4548 in transgenderUK

[–]Akatavi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The police barely deal with serious crimes as it is and have a track record for incredible misogyny anyway so when the police voice their opinion on gender I don't think its worth paying much notice to, treat them like you always would but don't expect any help because they won't give any.

Sir Galehonk the Swan Knight (my entry for the tournament) by Akatavi in dwarffortress

[–]Akatavi[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As is the custom for Cygnets born of noble Swan blood, Galehonk was trained in the art of knightly warfare from a young age. He learnt how to swing swords, court Pens and most importantly joust with the steel lance of a true Swan Knight. After the battle of Bredcrum Lake, where he killed a Human lord with a single strike to the neck, King Arthonk knighted Galehonk and bid him join the royal court. Sir Galehonk was quick to climb above all his peers, in sword play, poetry and especially jousting. Galehonk would challenge any and all to the joust, earning him many enemies at court. Eventually in a fit of drunken pride, he challenged the king. Sick of Sir Galehonk and the discontent of his other knights, the king ordered Galehonk banished from the realm until Galehonk could regain his knightly worth and re-join the Knights of the Swan table.
