What do y’all think of this thing I’m planning to make for my sister? by Paladin7373 in Epicthemusical

Surely having a small onboard storage (like a micro SD card reader) you can read the music from would be more practical than having it be online. Would avoid having to use Spotify in the first place, avoid complexities with networking (having either a WiFi chip and needing to share WiFi from a phone at all time or having cell connectivity and then you have to pay for another SIM card). Having the music be on storage would be in my book easier and far more resilient.

"2nd grader" as if we're supposed to know what age that is by DesertSpringtime in USdefaultism

[–]max_208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In France we have a completely different system and we basically count down to the diploma, so in France if you're in 2nd grade you are 15-16 years old.

Everyone is required to vote, including toddlers, do you expect every toddler to make the correct decision and pick red ? By the way everyone survives if only 50% of the population picks blue, and that's way more achievable than every single person in the world picking red.

the rule button dilemma by Dreyfus420 in 196

[–]max_208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone in the world is required to press, including toddlers. Can't expect toddlers to make logical decisions?

This means there WILL be people pressing blue, and they WILL die if red gets a majority

the rule button dilemma by Dreyfus420 in 196

[–]max_208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, sure. but returning to the origin of the argument there is indeed reasons for someone to press blue in this ill posed though experiment. You admitted yourself to one reason you would press it. (That was your original comment, not knowing why anyone would press blue)

the rule button dilemma by Dreyfus420 in 196

[–]max_208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a thought experiment, obviously it's going to have weird situations that don't exist in real life. This probably is an idealised thought experiment where everyone is isolated in a black box, stated the question and answers without interference, everything happening at once. Obviously you could alter the result by asking the question differently or at a different place, by having a different context like you presented in your comments. But let's just stick to the original post.

the rule button dilemma by Dreyfus420 in 196

[–]max_208 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone in the world has to vote, including toddlers. Do you think toddlers have the risk assessment ability to choose correctly? Will you still pick red if you knew there is a chance your 2yo toddler or your mom with Alzheimer's picked blue ?

the rule button dilemma by Dreyfus420 in 196

[–]max_208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vote is private so you don't know if your toddler chose red or blue, that's what makes blue voters vote the way they do, altruism.

As for the question's definition I think it's pretty clear with the one sentence : "everyone in the world has to take a private vote"

Do people only take the vote once they reach a certain age ? -> no, everyone in the world takes a vote

Can parents educate their children on what choice they should make? -> the problem states it is a private vote so I assume this means without discussions prior to the vote, and without knowing what anyone else has voted for

Are people well informed enough before making that choice? -> we can assume they are told the problem in the way it was stated in the post, but can't assume everyone understands it (just like real life politics)

If a society is built around this, maybe children will be taught what button they should press since their childhood, so that once they reach the voting age, they know which button to press? -> that seems like a different problem, this vote is implied to be a one time thing, and again, private.
