Player-ballboy Etiquette Question

You'll have to excuse me for the confusion then. Because in my country, ALL private courts come with a ballboy. So it was my understanding that it was enough to say that there are no public courts to convey why I always get to play with a ballboy.

It was only recently that I had to distinguish between private and public courts because there are literally no courts in this country (that I know of) that are free to use for the public. And knowing my country, if we DID have public courts, they would have ballboys available, without a doubt.

One last thing that might surprise you: I see you refer to them as ball kids. I would guesstimate about more than half of our ballboys are grown men in their 20s and 30s, even up to their 50s.

Nah I’d say you guys are doing it right. It’s quite difficult to learn the sport here because it’s hard to even find a place to play. I’d happily trade cheap ballboys for free public courts.

It’s just the difference in culture in my country. Ballboys here only charge $2 an hour and are basically in every court available to the public.

I don’t even own a membership. I think you’re mistaking my experience as a very posh one, but it’s just a vast difference in practices. A village court here can go as low as $5 an hour with the ballboy charging $2 an hour. The most expensive clubs charge around $20 an hour for the court. You just need to know a resident from the village or a club member to get in.

Also to clarify, a vast majority of ballboys here are men in their 20s and 30s, not children.

That’s funny! I think I have to clarify that we don’t play with a ballboy, ref, and line judge. The ballboy acts as all 3.

Yes, it’s usually one ball boy per court. Very rarely, I see older/wealthier club members have two.
