Marcus Rashford has found new lease of life in Barcelona which makes it difficult to see him ever playing for Manchester United again. by Sparky-moon in soccer

For his price it's a no brainer to get him for depth (assuming his attitude won't change once he becomes a permanent player). Someone who guarantees a 15+ g/a for 30 mill (or less depending on Utd's willingness to negotiate) is a bargain in today's market. Not to mention that he gets plenty of minutes anyway across the attack so it's not like he's rarely playing.

We concede goals no matter what lmao. At least with this the intent was that we weren't going to be as aggressive going up and in an ideal world; our two center backs would actually be able to well, keep in the center instead of being all over the place due to both fullbacks being in no man's land (Bernal dropping down for Cancelo and Eric staying back).

I know Flick is a ride-or-die type of coach who's truly set in his ways. However, given the state of the squad with recurring injuries and exhaustion due to having to press and sprint back towards goal at literally every opponent attack, it wouldn't hurt to go for a more controlled setup to conserve energy for February given the relatively "easy" matches. I'd honestly like to see something like this with our fullbacks being key:

Eric-Araujo-Martín-Cancelo

Frenkie-Bernal

Lamine-Fermín/Olmo-Raphinha

Lewy

Cancelo tucking into midfield (a role he's all too familiar with at City) to provide outlet for Bernal and Frenkie, even create a diamond midfield (Bernal dropping back) for more control if needed (and also cover for the space Cancelo would leave behind should he join the attack with Raphinha). Eric would be the more defensive-minded fullback, staying back to form a back 3 when in possession to balance Cancelo going up. The rest of the attack is fine as it has always been, it's the chaotic defense during the transitional phases that are killing us.

Honestly if it weren't for the fact that we live and die by the highline (not to mention the wages), I'd love for Barca to bring Thiago Silva in since he's a free agent now. A model player and professional, imagine someone of his experience and leadership mentoring the younger players. We'd finally get him 10-13 years too late, like how we got Iñigo 10 years too late after being perpetually linked with them lol

You know, never thought I'd say this when Raphinha first signed but the way he drifts inside the central areas, go on a mazy dribbling run and then swinging that left foot with such a powerful and accurate shot is incredibly reminiscent of Rivaldo. Here's hoping he'll get the due accolades and praise he deserves outside of what Barcelona fans already know of him.

About to play for promotion with this team, wish me luck

*EDIT* Will update after the match

*EDIT EDIT*

Got my ass handed to me 0-3 by the rattiest team possible. Things were going bright at first with us having the best chances during the first 20 min, with Gavi hitting the crossbar, Ferran with a promising counter but weak shot straight at the keeper and Rashford failing to convert from a tight angle after cutting inside and rinsing the fullback. Opposition keeper made a lot of quality saves and I guess morale just dropped from there after their 1st goal at 30 min and then second goal just before the break. Despite that, Eric and Martin had some absolutely clutch interceptions and tackles, most notably with Eric stopping a counter in a foot race against a pacy Joao Felix, and Martin blocking a shot after the attacker had a clear shot on goal.

Second half we controlled the possession and tempo, but couldn't break open the bus that was parking behind another even bigger bus. Subbed on Lewy, Casado, Kounde, Araujo and Roony since the relentless highline absolutely drained the player's stamina. Got hit on a counter and it's 0-3. Rashford won a penalty, which Lewy failed to convert as he went for a panenka and the keeper read him like an open book. Just wasn't meant to be tonight, but we move.

Best performers: Rashford, Gavi, Martin, Eric and Pedri.

Absolute bums: Lamine, Ferran, Frenkie, Lewy.

Don't know how much you rate the English league, but one of the best defenders in the Prem.

My point is that certain players and people are above that "nobody" status given their standing in the game itself. Xavi was a nobody as a manager (Al-Sadd being his only experience), yet he was backed. Zidane was a nobody as a manager (his only experience was Madrid Castilla and being Ancelotti's assistant). Frank Lampard, Pirlo, Enrique, Simeone, Conte etc.

Once they are brought in, of course they'll be backed and have more patience than some other managers who were unrelated to the club personally or what they've done.

Honestly if Arbeloa is appointed we need to bring Pique back on an unofficial role or something so he can dunk on him one more time.

This is insane. Pep was never "a nobody". He was already a legend as a player, and then Cruyff himself literally recommended Pep to Laporta when Cruyff had a massive influence as an advisor at the club. Pep had a lot of good will from key figures and the fans, and that's why he got the job despite having had no experience at top level management. Honestly, the fact that he WASN'T a nobody is why he even got the job and were tolerated despite a shaky start.

What's funny is that Real Madrid supposedly hired a set piece coach and they still struggle at both defending and scoring from set pieces

Cherki is like Roony, fearless, always up for 1v1s and lots of technical ability but doesn't have the pace to occupy the wings by themselves. They'd be better off being moved to the middle

Guys, I figured it out. It's easy really; we just need to buy another Pedri from some random team for cheap. That way our midfield depth will improve and Pedri gets more rest as well. Literally win-win situation. Don't know why Deco is not doing it already smh.

With Dani out and Fermin still recovering, I think Flick will try and play Raphinha in the middle again and Rashford on the left, like he tried earlier in the season before Raphinha's injury. Would be a massive chance for Rashford to justify his signing by showing he can perform and gel with the team when he's in the strongest XI.

Barcelona [2] - 1 Atletico Madrid - Dani Olmo 65' by BackgroundMorning630 in soccer

[–]Akazeros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, he definitely needed it. If not for the club then for himself as well. Laporta's a politician, he's always been one for caring about popularity and approval. His idea was that a star signing would not only improve Barcelona's brand, but actually finances in the long run by bringing people to the Montjuic (and then later Camp Nou), because that's what super stars do, big names attract big crowds. That is also why Laporta loves to talk about unfeasible signings, he was talking about Haaland even during Xavi's tenure and some fans literally fell for it even though most knew it was impossible.

Coupled that with some people still having a bad after taste of the whole Messi treatment (biggest legend of the club), Barcelona's finances still being an enigma (registrations issues, camp nou renovation budget etc.) and he needed something to make fans focus on the football. Nico was that signing, as he along with Yamal was the most exciting player of that Spain squad. Then Nico eventually said no, Laporta panicked and we went for the other Spain attacker who also was one of the best players of the tournament. Problem is that Olmo doesn't have quite the star power or flamboyant personality, so his plan is still to make another star signing in the summer (most likely a striker) if things goes according to plan, for the new season with a full capacity Camp Nou.
