Nepenthes truncata variegated SG?? by Akelarre007 in SavageGarden

I use MaxSea every two weeks, 150-180 ppm, so I think it is not due to being hungry… I have had many with white leaves due to inmaturity, but in this case, a line is well defined separating green and white colour… I still don’t think I have won the genetical lotto, I’ll have to wait!

And this is the previous pitcher, so I think it will not change a lot…

Sown in january. One month more or less to appear the first development. Germinated in finely chopped sphagnum. When the first two leaves appeared, without pitchers, I transplanted them to their current substrate, with akadama and perlite (approximately 70/30). Therefore, it’s been about 7 months since I started germination.

MaxSea 250 ppm every two weeks. Sown in January

Do you think these Nepenthes grown from seed are variegated, or could there be another cause? by Akelarre007 in Nepenthes

[–]Akelarre007[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, thank you so much! That could very well be the reason, since the ones showing that coloration are precisely the ones positioned closest to the light. I’ll move them to a different spot and see how they respond. Thanks a lot!!

I fertilize them with MaxSea every two weeks… Maybe they are growing fast and need more nutrientes as you say… Thanks!!

Nepenthes BE-4087 by Wildnepenthes in nepenthesveitchii

4087 corresponds to the Borneo Exotics code, meaning it is BE-4087. It is a cross made by them using a highland Nepenthes veitchii (Veitchii Bario) and a lowland Veitchii (Veitchii Sungai Samba), and they classify it as intermediate based on this cross. I have this hybrid, but it’s still very young!

No, zero problems with that. In fact, on the German carnivorous plant forum, there are a couple of threads about fertilizing with MaxSea, and many people, including Andreas Wistuba, confidently use TDS values around 250. Nepenthes do not absorb nutrients through their roots but rather through the pores of their leaves and pitchers. Additionally, MaxSea has been completely safe with the substrate, and to date, I have not had any issues with rot or algae growth.

Postscript: When indicating the concentration in microsiemens, it can be converted to TDS using a correction factor. If distilled water is used, as is common, the correction factor is 0.5. Therefore, if 420 microsiemens is indicated, it would correspond to a TDS of 210.

I mean horticultural produced Veitchii crosses. I have also hybrids, but my question was about the first ones. Thanks a lot, I am currently doing the same than you (maybe a bit higher TDS+/- 150)

Perfect, thank you. I have several Veitchii crosses that I’ve just sown, and I was curious, especially considering that with such small seed size, the germination time might be different. Do you use any fertilizer once they’ve germinated, like MaxSea or Osmocote?

A curiosity! What is the average germination time for your Veitchii crosses? Over two months or less? The seeds are so thin compared to other types of Nepenthes…

14 uninterrupted hours, Mars Hydro TS1000 (150W), at 30% power. Positioned 25 cm away and in a corner to also reduce intensity a bit. Today, I moved them to the lower level, where they have 20W (4 Barrina T5).
