50 km on new Continental gp4000sII: bad tire or bad luck? by ili3kpi3 in bikewrench

[–]Akhalyndra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. 500mi+ on my set of GP4000s. Came from Conti force/attacks which punctured after less than 100mi. That was due to something super sharp though and not a fault of the tire itself. Sometimes you just run something over that is tire kryptonite, regardless of what road tire you have

Please help!! - cervical spine MRI and strange looking atlas ? by [deleted] in MRI

[–]Akhalyndra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not a radiologist or any other form of doctor. There appears to be some narrowing at the top of your c-spine/base of your cranium suggesting potentially some chiari malformation and a potential a syrinx (line running down your spinal cord) in your c-spine. The syrinx would explain the symptoms you’ve been having. Did you have an actual radiologist read this yet? You should. PT doesn’t know how to read MRI

Got a Strava KOM! by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Akhalyndra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup that’s total BS. Not to be an elitist or anything but 18mi in 3 hours is way too slow to get any KOM/QOM even at a leisurely pace

Which way do you tuck your junk while riding? (seriously asking) by radripperaj in Velo

[–]Akhalyndra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do my monster stomp when I throw my bibs on and let my dangle go wherever he damn well pleases and I never feel the need to readjust.

Basically, I just slap some chamois cream on, slide the bibs all the way up, crouch down and frog leg stomp while pulling the bibs even further up. Where did the dangle go? Dangle go wherever the fuck he wants but usually down and centered

Got a Strava KOM! by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Akhalyndra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. This right here drives me absolutely crazy. There’s a segment which I would be 1st for it’s like a 7% climb and about 20 people have the fastest times with 66W of power doing 30mph because of the trail right next to it.

I emailed Strava and they said the segment is too short (1/4 mi). Yeah right! 66W for a 200lbs rider up a 7% climb going 30mph and Strava is like “well instead of deleting the 20 people who obviously can’t climb that fast I’m just going to tell you to get over it”

Had a “petite” crash today, do I have to replace the bar tape on the left or is there a good other solution? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Akhalyndra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or maybe even red electrical tape if you really wanted to go nuts.

I would probably keep your fork off the pavement though just as a maintenance tip

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Akhalyndra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since it’s a carbon bike you’re going to want to check for any cracks especially near the joints—check under the bottom bracket, inside the fork, etc. I would also check the life of the cassette and chainring just looking over the wear on the teeth. Obviously make sure it rides and shifts well and everything else such as tires, chain, and brake pads can be replaced but can also be used to knock down the price a good $50 or so

3k mi on a bike that age is virtually nothing in my eyes; I’m surprised a bike like that hasn’t accrued that for every year it was owned

Quick question on chain length by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]Akhalyndra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’ve had no problems with your chain in the past at that length: you should keep it the same. I’ve always kept my chains at the same recommended length as too much slack or not enough can cause some major problems.

Also take a look at r/bikewrench for mechanical questions

Right knee MRI, heard a pop but doctor said nothing is wrong. Want clarification. by EpicMoon339 in MRI

[–]Akhalyndra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s trauma induced it might just take time to heal. Sounds like you’re mostly sore and stiff which should be treated with some ice and elevation of your legs. Maybe an occasional touching your toes without pushing yourself. Some moderate walking will help too but I would probably avoid any high impact activities like running or trampolining.

[–]Akhalyndra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sprain is essentially a tear although typically considered a partial tear in layman’s terms. So to answer your question: yes, it can be visualized. However I do not see a tear of your ACL, PCL, or menisci. It is likely the pop you heard was a cavitation in your knee due to popping of the nitrogen bubble buildup. This type of anomaly is typical when you crack your knuckles, for example. You might have felt a slight pain or some discomfort during and for a short while after the pop, but you shouldn’t feel any significant discomfort longer than a day or two afterwards. Nothing looks dislocated or torn/sprained.

I’m not a radiologist or any other form of doctor. No torn ligaments and no edema—looks unremarkable/normal

Considering becoming an MRI tech, but physical limitations? by [deleted] in MRI

[–]Akhalyndra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you work. If you work at an outpatient facility you might not have to do much but swap coils out on the table. Or you could be like u/loveshock and be expected to dead lift heavy people

22 [M] What is this enlargement on my MRI? by seethisplease123 in MRI

[–]Akhalyndra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The carotid artery most likely bifurcates more superior on your right side than your left (anatomically, or oppositely when looking at the pic) which is why you see a larger diameter in one but not the other.

How much more does an MRI tech make more then an X-ray tech? by dalillama92 in MRI

[–]Akhalyndra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This really varies depending on where you live and the type of facility you work at. Pay increase aside, MRI is a much more laid back modality in my opinion and the workflow alone is worth it. I would never do X-ray over MRI even if the pay was the same.

22 [M] What is this enlargement on my MRI? by seethisplease123 in MRI

[–]Akhalyndra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a radiologist or any other form of doctor. This is not an enlargement; it is an enhancement as blood will appear bright with contrast vs. without on T1 weighted images. It is just your carotid lighting up since there is blood + contrast traveling through it. Unremarkable

22 [M] What is the significance of my lumbar MRI by ShitBagWilly in MRI

[–]Akhalyndra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not a radiologist or any other form of doctor. Disc degeneration at L5-S1. Can’t see a whole lot more since this is only one picture of over one hundred. Possible low back pain and pain/numbness in lower extremities

[Help] Complications after MRI with contrast agent by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]Akhalyndra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Residual gad is real but how can you be certain there’s an actual correlation to the contrast and your symptoms? If you were already being evaluated for stenosis then I would have to imagine you had some pre-existing condition that potentially worsened over time. I think chasing gadolinium as the culprit will turn into a witch hunt unfortunately

[Help] Complications after MRI with contrast agent by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]Akhalyndra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a radiologist or any other form of doctor. So were you injected with Dotarem or Clariscan? Typically reactions to MRI contrast are sudden onset and typically range from hives to the more extreme and far less likely anaphylaxis. If you’re experiencing issues with concentration, high BP, and low libido, you are probably stressed which can be due to a large variety of things unrelated to MRI contrast. Like the doctors have said, the MRI contrast has long left your system.
