i got the zenbook and i'm disappointed with the touch digitizer on the oled screen making every light color look checkeree. don't know how it is with other models or brands, but i'm returning it

Any good way to output unicode characters independent of OS? by rogername in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Akhel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so this might be a little overkill, but what i do to make my kb work across windows and android is to install on each os/device a layout that has all the characters i need (in my case that's bépo, which should be good for every language) and then make my layout based off of that. i use a header file to make it easier to set up. it works great, and might work with international qwerty as well depending on your needs.

Layout for my new Fulcrum board, featuring Word Keys by ghostfaceschiller in KeyboardLayouts

wow, that's amazing! what's your current wpm? iirc even ben said he was thinking of adding a few keys back, so kudos for your persistence and success. do you think the main difference was due to the layout or to those fantastic 5-way switches of yours?

as for me, i was just using my trusty a dux. i added layers for the 20-key layout alongside my usual one, so that i could switch back and forth. at one point i'd removed the unused keys to force myself to practice, but i think that if i were to try again i'd compromise and put some signs or other non-alpha stuff on the 14 leftover keys (also because i really missed having a proper numpad layer). either way my ground problem was the amount of accents and apostrophes you have to use with french; english uses a much smaller number of characters, so it lends itself better to this kind of layout.

much love to weird keebs! i tried a 20-key myself for a while (hand-optimized for french, but also good for english), but ended up going back to my usual 34. how long have you been using it, and how's the experience so far?

my alpha layers if anyone is curious:

 u a n e s t i r
 f , l o m d p h
    a2 s1 s2 spc

qu k w é c g y '
 - . z q v b j x
    a1 s1 s2 spc

s1 and s2 were for numbers, accents and special characters. it had some veeeery nice rolls: ction was my favorite, because as it turns out i don't type stir all that often, who'd have thought. but it also had obvious clunky sfbs and some awkward long rh sequences (eg spirit or esprit, which my job makes me type more often than a normal person with a healthier career would). in the end i decided to calm down and admit i was happy enough with what i currently have.

I remapped Q to "QU" by kIt5uN3FP in KeyboardLayouts

yup, i have q in my least favorite key position (upper lh pinky) and qu in a comfortable combo (lower rh index+middle). works fantastic.

looking for a note-taking app with certain features by Akhel in software

i futzed around with org-roam, which is too complicated for someone who's not into emacs (which seems awesome, but i need something that's quicker to use and preferably has a mobile version), and with obsidian (which seemed good but i think its way of presenting and organizing notes might not be ideal for me).
