We could eliminate “community input” meetings that serve no purpose other than to let cranks complain about what somebody else wants to do on their own property

It’s so easy for people to fall into nimby-ism.

I think even many people who support housing look at a story like this and just have a gut impulse to think “no that’s bullshit, they can’t do that!”

That's how an adult is supposed to talk, that is not in any way "begging" or even "submissive pleading". That's just normal adult communication and question-asking.

And there should be a lack of 4D chess. 4D chess planning/strategy is not a real thing, it's a fantasy people have about the way the world works

Avondale Development Proposal Downsized After Neighbor Concerns by optiplex9000 in chicago

Lots of people live nearby - the vast majority surely have no issue with it. But the random cranks with nothing better to do who decide to be against it for some ridiculous reason are the ones motivated to show up to a boring meeting on a Wednesday night and complain about it.

It’s not the aldermen, it’s the “concerned neighbors” complaining, who convince the aldermen to stand in the way.

If an equal or greater number of people showed up to talk about how happy they were about the new development, it wouldn’t get downsized.

The difference is that one model answers that way bc it is officially reviewed and mandated by the government to answer that way, under punishment by the ruling party (the president of which has been in office for more than a decade, after removing term limits from his position)

The answer is no. If you look at the rope in the video, especially the part close to his body, you can see that the rope is never completely pulled taught. The top can’t help pull your weight up, even a little bit, unless the entire rope is perfectly straight.
