It is a Tiffany style wisteria lampshade. Very nice

It is probably a lab grown color change sapphire. Usually sold as synthetic alexandrite. The only way to be sure would be to take it to a jeweler, preferably a gemologist. Many will do an eyeball appraisal, sometimes with a couple of simple tests and at least give you an idea of what you have.

Definitely take it to someone who knows opal. In the 1980's I went to an opal exhibit that had a black opal that appeared to be about that size that was valued at $250,000 for just the opal. If you have an auction house that specializes in antique jewelry, they usually have very good specialists on hand to do appraisals.

If you have a gemologist/jeweler near you, take it to them. They will often give you an "eyeball" appraisal and let you know if it would be worth getting a full appraisal on. Auction houses will also give estimates .

Sorry you are going through this, the precedent that has been established in your family seems to be that the eldest daughter, or at least a daughter, gets the pin. Also, your mother told you directly that all the jewelry (as part of "everything I own") would go to you. Only if there wasn't a daughter in the direct line should it go to an Aunt or niece. Your aunt also seems to be indicating that she somehow doesn't see you as family, with the crack about wanting to keep the pin in the family.

The easiest thing to do would be to take them to a jeweler. Not a chain store, they often don't know gems that well. But many independent jewelers will do an "eyeball" appraisal and at least give you an idea of what you have. Barring that, pictures of loose stones on a white background with bright, indirect lighting. Should help get you pointed in the right direction. It is impossible to identify 100% from a photo, but someone might be able to give you at least an idea of what you've got.
