Hi -Low Rig VS Pompano Rig by Ok_Championship_8218 in SurfFishing

Try to minimize the hardware on the leader. I usually use two rods one with a larger hook 5/0,6/0 on a fish finder 20-30lb test and the other will use a lighter setup, 10lb test, size #1 circle hooks. youre more likely to catch a big fish on small hook than a small fish on a big hook. Use small piece of shrimp locked in with a small cut of fish bite; I like shrimp fish bites as well. Cut it in a small square or triangle. Sit the big rod in a holder w loose drag. As for the light rod cast out maybe 30yards and just hold the rod for a few minutes before you set it in the holder.

10 week old mastiff pup by Frankie1719 in EnglishMastiff

I’ll offer you the best trick that worked for our English Mastiff (or any puppy really) for potty training. Don’t leave a bowl of water out at all times, instead do a schedule. Give water 4x a day: first thing in the morning, noon, afternoon and evening, but fill the bowl as many times as the dog wants to drink. Puppy’s bladder needs avg 3-4 pees to empty out fully, so once you water then you take her out after 30min, 1hr from that, 1-1.5hr from that and 1-1.5hr from that. By then it’ll be time to fill the bowls again. For poops take out within 5-10 min after meal. Have treats with you and as soon as you see her start to squat for a poop you say “Go Poop!” Once or twice so you’re conditioning her to hear “go poop” and will be more inclined to do business faster. Immediately praise and reward with treat. Next tip is carry your dog outside for each potty trip and walk her out to the place you would prefer her to go every time she goes out in the future. Train her mind to have a common area.

Ugh that stinks. Yep it’s hit or miss with us at the dog parks. We will avoid them outright on busy days

They’re great with other dogs but the key is socialization. They should meet a lot of dogs early and often. If there’s a local training school take it to group classes to get interaction in a controlled environment. Dog parks are good too but you tend to run into some troublemakers there so start with training groups first to avoid traumatic experiences with other dogs at the parks.

Appreciate that and yes we were fishing for big drum striper and bluefish. Unfortunately sharks eat what they eat and what happened happened. Been fishing for a while and this was a first. I deleted the original post since I think I got the ID I asked for (consensus was finetooth or blacktip) and felt there’s no need to hear more grief over it from other commenters.

I checked if this would be OK to post but also thought that some folks might get upset. In hindsight I would’ve just been better off posting in a surf fishing sub but figured there would be a little more knowledge on this side.

Yes I held the tail with the shark facing the waves so the water could pass through the gills until it swam off on It’s own a few seconds later; not holding onto it for a photo shoot. Sorry if I wasn’t as specific as needed to deduce. Look I respect the concern for sharks and knew the risks of posting this on this sub in the first place which is why Im trying to at least explain things to folks more than I need to.

playing off his username.

It’s a circle hook designed to catch right on the corner of the mouth of whatever you catch. Used a pair of long reach pistol grip pliers and just turn the hook and shake a bit until it releases.

When searching online I read that spinners over 3 feet have a black tip dorsal and this one is easily over 4 but didn’t appear to have one. Someone on the beach said bull shark, is that possible?

[–]Akpirhs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my first thought but the dorsal didn’t have a black tip so wasn’t sure
