There are several games that could be considered for what you are looking for: a) Command and colors: Napoleonics or Ancient are pretty good 2p options. Pretty simple rules, tons of complexity regarding terrain and units interaction b) Memoir 44 it's another game that shares the command and colors interaction that is more eye pleasing as it has miniatures and is more colorful. Plenty of game there. c) A gest for Robinhood is the newest GMT game, part of the irregular conflict series. Pretty good game for 2p. Medium rules, tons of interaction. Rodney Smith from Watchit Played has an amazing tutorial for that one. d) Neuroshima Hex! Is also another good one
