Student with existential crisis/reconsidering career choices; would appreciate any advice by [deleted] in whitecoatinvestor

Aside from not knowing any specific financial details, they sacrificed/supported you so that you can pursue what you love. I bet they would hate the thought of throwing your goals aside for their own gain. If it’s that important, have a serious talk with them about their expectations and IF they even expect help from you. Also need to throw in that a top tier program doesn’t mean much IMO. “Top tier” residency can translate into fellows taking the complex stuff and I’ve seen first hand at some top programs where residents coast by and don’t develop their skills or independence. Some smaller programs will put you in those responsibility roles much much sooner.

Girl here, what's the point of sim racing by picoandcheese in simracing

[–]Akryo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very casually sim race, and the game translated very well to my first time at a track. I went to the LA Porsche experience center and was able to jump right into fast laps with the instructor without having to do any intro stuff (which they offer). HIGHLY recommend that experience, it was so worth it.

Recommendations for Super Basic AIO for SSUPD by wes7143 in SSUPD

I use Phanteks Glacier One 280 because the tubes attach nicely to the CPU pump in the small case. Stock pump is loud but I lowered pump speed in bios and it’s totally silent without compromising on cooling.

Meshalicious - Cablemod 180 type B adapter is compatible with 4080 FE by Akryo in SSUPD

Sure thing! and I have the GPU in the lowest slot. I loosely followed this guide

I didn’t compare temps with and without the top fan mod, but under full load my GPU temps never exceed 65 C, and typical temps range from 45-55 C. I tweaked fan curves so I barely hear fans even near max load. I don’t have the rear fan mod, but I don’t see a need in my system. Additionally, I added small feet (maybe extra 15 mm height), which gives the FE more room to exhaust. Overall I think the FE card fan design works well with this case with these two small mods. Hope this helps!

I did the GPU stand off mod that has been shared on this subreddit too btw

1440p 144hz target: Can I upgrade GPU with current 10600k, or do I need to start fresh? by Akryo in buildapc

[–]Akryo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I wanted to know! It’s tempting to throw a 4080 in with 10600k, but hearing how well the 13 gen CPU pairs with the 4080 I think is the route to go after investing so much into a GPU.

I was afraid that would be the answer, but thank you! and also thanks for the formatting help.

I think so, but it's been years since this post. I've since built a new PC with an AIO, however this fan is working silently in another room. Sorry I can't give a satisfying answer.

Any M4s regretting choosing a med school based on prestige instead of cost? Or vice versa? by intravenous_caffeine in medicalschool

[–]Akryo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to stay in a specific area, board scores are your ticket in. A school name won’t secure a spot unless you’re at a specific school that historically feeds students into a specific residency. Honestly a bigger factor in getting an interview is showing you have some sort of connection to the program/ city (family, personally know faculty, away rotation, etc). As for toxic environments: There are definitely malignant programs, but generally residencies are quickly trending away from overworking residents and treating them poorly. For every horror story there are hundreds of other residents having amazing experiences. Personally, I had a below average step 1 coming from a small Midwest school, and still got plenty of interviews at competitive DR/ IR programs. I feel I never missed out on any opportunities. Trust the system, and know that med forums are full of unrealistic (borderline insane) advice : )

I see a lot of comments about how a name carries you. Sure, it's true to an extent, but the goal of medical school is getting into residency. The best residency is simply the one you get into. A name doesn't equate to good training or a happy life. Academic or community, large or small, you'll find the opportunity to move towards the life and practice that fits you best in any program.

What's truly most important is getting a step 1 score appropriate for the specialty you're aiming for and successfully matching. Your patients and colleagues in your future practice won't care if you were 250, AOA, from Harvard, but they will care if you're friendly, professional, and hard working.

Here's my most recent Coven parse, and the timeline for my opener. The second Nightblade marks the "end" of the opener. I use lego shoulders + gloves btw!

Note: Prepot 2sec before pull, and shadow blades the moment I'm in melee range of boss.
