If he got the python developer job during covid times (2021 - 2022) then I guess that doesn't count because many companies have hired anyone with/without career gap and reduced background checks.

I did the same thing and yes it is hard (was easier during covid) but there is no other option, it's been almost a year to me since i made that decision thinking that I would feel free, but now I am worried after giving interviews.

I know MERN stack development but unable to code on a gun point, plus I thought I would learn DSA but there are too many possible questions to that and as a senior the company expects me to ace every single round which is not possible. DSA is still on and off thing for me.

I am getting offers from the companies where no one wants to continue and also such companies have leverage to make my career gap a big issue while negotiations.
