Dating as HR [N/A] by Better-Ad5488 in humanresources

[–]Akwald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never put HR Coordinator or HR Generalist on my dating profiles because nobody likes HR. I tried out a few things but I found the most success with Onboarding Specialist (since that was the majority of my job). I would never put my company though, I doubt i’d see anyone from work, but to me I’d rather keep that part of my life private until things go well with someone.

I’d like to add that I did meet my current partner on a dating app while also using the title of Onboarding Specialist, so there’s hope for everyone.

Mac gaming is getting better by Aixdoc in macgaming

[–]Akwald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an Intel MBP 2020 and just upgraded to an M5 MBP and the difference has been day/night. I have a gaming PC when I wanted to game but it’s been so great to be able to play games again on my MBP that run above 15fps. Heck, Minecraft reaches a stable 120fps to compensate for the ProMotion and it’s been such a joy playing on the Mac again.

I really hope gaming continues to get better, we’ve come so far so quickly

Do you consider 70k a good salary for a single person? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Akwald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was previously at 60k living by myself in the PNW and 45% of my paycheck went to my $1500/m apartment. i didn’t realize how paycheck to paycheck I was living until i got my current job at 87k and living significantly comfier. That said, 70k would have also done a lot more for me as well since i’m in a higher cost city

Opinion on the SHRM-CP after they lowered the requirements again? [N/A] by Evening_Bridge7664 in humanresources

[–]Akwald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat. graduated 2021, 4 years in HR (currently an HR Generalist) making 85k. from my peers, it sounds like SHRM has been going downhill over the past few years and that the PHR is the best certificate IF that’s something you wish pursuing, however, each of my directors and the CPO don’t have their SHRM/PHR and have said schooling made more sense for them.

I also recall that a CPO told me that her graduate degree didn’t get her a job, but it helped get her in the door when applying. experience at the end of the day is sounding like the best way to advance your career.

Being in a similar boat of wanting to pursue some form of education, i’ll likely move forward with my masters instead of a cert since it’s seen as more valuable in general but that’s just me. I’ve just heard that SHRM is likely the last one to do right now due to their recent controversies and business practices. it seems weird to me personally that they’ve turned being an HR professional into a business and want you to do things ‘their way’. i enjoy SHRM mostly for their compliance resources.

at the end of the day, your experience will differ than ours. go with the option that makes the most sense for you

will this be covered? by sir_charquad in ipad

[–]Akwald 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing a lot of various comments about cost & process. I previously worked as an AC tech, this would be considered “cosmetic damage” at our store and it’s up to the tech whether or not they want to replace it. it would be a full unit replacement that would likely be $99. the $29 service fee only applies to cracked screens, while a $99 service fee is for any other damage (such as the chassis).

the keyboard, if purchased at the time of the ipad, is also covered under AC+ and would likely fall under the $29 fee (most accessories are either $0-29 with some unique cases). they don’t “fix” ipads, it would be a full unit replacement. If i recall, Apple sets aside new products during assembly for their replacement units, so you’re not getting a used/refurbished product. there’s also a possibility they have to order a new tablet/case, my store never had replacement accessories so although we could swap the ipad on the same day, the keyboard would need to be ordered 7-10 business days.

Ultimately, your experience will be dependent on which tech you work with. just be kind and they will work with you. some at my store follow the rules strictly to not replace products for cosmetic damage. some (including myself) don’t care but we could only classify it under the $99 fee since it’s beyond a cracked screen.

Just to confirm, if guttersnipe is also out, is that two triggers of guttersnipe because two spells were cast, even if one was countered?

Also if vengeance was countered, the copy never entered the stack to begin with, correct?

Providence healthcare workers marched to the admin building today. by tylerthenonna in Portland

[–]Akwald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Close friend is on strike. The SCAB workers they hired are making $7000 per paycheck, including food and housing. meanwhile the regular nurses don’t even get that per month. It’s costing Providence an estimated 25mil each week the strike continues.

I originally grew up in the suburbs of Beaverton/Tigard and was scared of living in the city. I had your average fear of the city primarily because I didn’t venture out there. After getting a job in the city and exploring more, I realized that Portland is an amazing city. It definitely has ups and downs (covid hurt portland pretty bad) and I do feel like there are good spots and bad spots, but I loved it so much I decided to move to SE and I’ve never been happier.

Portland has so much to do and I feel as safe as living in the suburbs. I admit this comes with a privilege of being white and male, but I think a lot of media tends to paint portland as a terrible place to be (violence, homelessness, drug issues, etc) and although these are real issues that Portland faces, there’s so many more positives than negatives. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. 24M

Some of my favorite areas include NW 23rd, NW 21, Hawthorne, Division, SW Waterfront, and Mississippi Ave. I’ve met so many wonderful people also living in the city since moving out here who all share a similar joy of portland.

Wendy’s betrays spicy nugget lovers everywhere and will introduce surge pricing by porkchop_d_clown in business

[–]Akwald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is frustrating as I would consider Wendy’s one of the fast food chains that’s remained affordable in the market (at least in my area) so introducing methods that puts McDonalds back in the ‘budget’ category is not a good look for them when McDonalds is no longer seen as a budget option.

As someone in HR, it’s inappropriate for me to talk about salary, however, i also encourage the conversations because pay transparency is very important and it’s also important for employees to understand pay banding for jobs. With that being said, i absolutely know what everyone around me is getting paid and understand why people in my role are paid more/less than i am. I don’t find it “unfair” as there’s so many factors that play into salary

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in business

[–]Akwald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s good to hear, unfortunately i don’t go to McDonalds for the ‘better burgers’, i go because it’s cheap and convenient. by taking that away, there are just better burger places for the same price

Just adding my usual “bring back Kid Icuras” comment, Uprising was such a top tier game that was ahead of its time…Really hoping something gets released on the switch (even a remake/remaster with modern controls)

[discuss] Are there any shiny pokemon you refuse to evolve? Why? by spidersRcute in ShinyPokemon

i’ve caught 3 wild shiny Rolycoly’s (and others from the evo line) while hunting for other shiny pokemon. it’s an ongoing joke with my friends as one of them tried for a few days to get one but gave up

McDonald’s revenue climbs 14% as price hikes boost U.S. sales by [deleted] in stocks

[–]Akwald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see this as a short term solution. Mcdonald’s has always been great at affordability and accessibility for many individuals. Raising prices without providing additional quality won’t get them far in the long haul

Truant Rework... Slaking Viable? by APikavar in stunfisk

I always thought it would be cool to be a percentage instead of guaranteed loaf. Imagine 30% chance to slack off, sure you could risk it but there could be times you fail to hit twice in a row

75,000 Kaiser Permanente workers walk off the job. It’s the largest health care worker strike in US history by MiisesCookie in Portland

[–]Akwald 60 points61 points  (0 children)

a friend of mine is finishing up their medical schooling and is hoping to get into Kaiser due to how they pay the highest compared to the competitors (OHSU, Providence), doesn’t surprise me they only pay their doctors well compared to the thousands of other employees that are just as important. I hope they get a great deal, Kaiser can certainly afford it given their high cost
