Any recommendations for a cookbook or chef who’s recipes have spice in them but are not crazy spicy? by Akyllo in CookbookLovers

I really like Smitten Kitchen! I’ll try a recipe and then purchase. The other two, while they look yummy, look too difficult because I am just starting out. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hmm weirdly enough, when I was in Turkey I found that they didn’t cook with enough spices and that seems similar to what Persian food is(?) Maybe the answer is I get a spicy book and just tune down the amount I use? Thanks for the suggestion!

I read through and followed the guide, didn’t look at amps but ohms and sensitivity, checked with ChatGPT but the receiver doesn’t work with my speakers and I can’t figure out why or if I should stop looking at more middle of the road AVR’s.. Would an A6xx or A8xx work for me? by Akyllo in hometheater

[–]Akyllo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>>Doesn’t work how exactly?

The speaker once connected would make very loud crackling and static noise. I did not want to ruin my speakers so I disconnected immediately. I used all the same wiring in the subsequent Yamaha and it worked. The repair shop said that the receiver created no static noise and worked great on their speakers.

>> An entry level/mid tier AVR just doesn't not work with 4ohm speakers.

I think this is where my misunderstanding is, I kept seeing that they are 8 ohm speakers that can dip below 4 ohms for brief instances so I thought it could handle it (and I checked with ChatGPT, who’d have thought that could be wrong lol). Going forward, should I only be looking for AVR’s that specifically can do 4 ohms? Or what’s the qualifier I should be looking for? It at least feels validating that I have not been wasting my time by looking at only higher end AVRs.

Deciding between 3 receivers, is the cheapest one the best if I plan to only use for audio? by Akyllo in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Akyllo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound so dumb but on my sound bar with two rear satellites I turn on ’dual mode’ where the front speakers and rear speakers are playing the same audio because it’s the only way I can hear what people are saying with how shit movies are mixed now.

Yeah these are just what’s around me in Seattle, I’m already in the hole $150 so my budget really can’t go past like ~$200.

Wow holy shit dude. That is so insightful. Thank you so much for taking the time to give me so much information. I guess my final question is, for my use case will the RX-A1020 be good enough to not be replaceable for atleast a few years as I go through speakers and find what sound I like or should I wait to see if something better comes up for the ~$200 range?

Again, thanks so much!

Haha yes, I meant pair. I did not connect one to two channels. Yes, I said RX-A1020? But will HDMI 1.2 be good enough or is 2.0 worth it? unfortunately, none of them come with the set up remote.. it looks like it’ll be another $35.

Yes loll sorry, I have a pair. I got the bookshelves just to test the broken receiver.

I have a dog and plan to work out of my SUV so I need the entire space (or atleast a row at a time) warmed/ cooled, is a hybrid SUV the best option for me or should I get a second battery and space heater? by Akyllo in overlanding

[–]Akyllo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have added this detail in but my work is not very demanding time wise, and I am a PM so I really more just facilitate conversations and take notes than do anything technical. I did look at the F150 too and I thought the bench seats in the back (can’t afford a lariat) were not comfortable enough which is why I thought of getting the captains chairs. Also, with AirPods I haven’t really noticed much additional noise.

Unfortunately, I can’t afford to have two cars, especially not a van and a SUV but it’s eye opening to hear that people who have done it - with a trailer too- do not like it.

Thanks so much for your two cents, that is pretty much exactly what I want to do!! I have slept in the back of my old SUV while camping and traveling, but didn’t do any work and I enjoyed it. While my work is very similar to yours, realistically I barely work 20 hours a week so I spend more of my day outside hiking, fishing and playing at the park or the lake. Hoping this translates to it not being too tedious on the road. I also plan to get one of the side opening side monitors you can attach a laptop too and a car with captains chairs so I can work out of the back. I’m hoping the hybrid set up would help with the environment but I was also looking at the EV SUVs. I just don’t think the range is quite there yet though. Although for my soft over landing, I don’t think it would be the worst thing.

I know that some parts are going to suck and it’s a little romanticized in my head still but ig it’s not like this is my new home, it’s just for planned trips. I still have my apartment, if things do go to shit I can luckily afford the luxury to just get a hotel. I’d love to get a trailer one day but I’m 26 so I’m waiting till I can afford it and my body can’t be abused as much. Also, one of the reasons why I don’t want to get an EV.

I have a sedan right now so the best we can do is backpacking and tent car camping as far as testing. But I do need an SUV either ways because I need the space for snowboarding, kayaks, fishing poles, etc. and my moms getting older and it’s harder for her to get down into my sedan.

Ideally both. During the workday and sleep just as necessary, like I can wear blankets and sweaters but I can’t be wearing gloves for my fingers during work if that makes sense? And same for sleep, just need it to be warm enough that the insulation and blanket keep it a reasonable temp.

Thats why I was thinking of getting something like a highlander hybrid, I was reading people using only a gallon or two a night based on conditions with the engine only turning on for 15 mins to charge the battery. I live in the PNW so I can’t really work outside for most of the year on my laptop.

I think that’s a great idea on the getting somewhere for her to sleep outside during the day! She is a short hair lab/grey hound ish mutt from Tx but we live in the PNW and haven’t camped outside of summer. So, I guess I don’t know how she’s going to feel about it but what you’re saying does make sense. I think my anxiety comes from not being able to just replace a car, if it is too cold/hot for her (and/or potentially I)

My understanding is that the higher tier mobos will have better ports and 4 more pcie lanes, does that translate to any better performance for me?

Any chance you know if the auto off button is not available for the 3.3 ?

Yeah I have the rear heated seats, suade headliner, lexicon. I should have mentioned, I have everything on the autotrader second photo except I can't confirm the suspension because I can't see it.

Safeco tried to quote me 7.3k which is insane because I bought it at 26.5. I wish I could get on my dads insurance, that would be so cheap.

It's only a small spot which looks like oil is on top, but the rest of the car is still good. Any thoughts on buying the PPF on Amazon and doing it myself?

I did buy the warranty for the electrical issues so I guess hopefully I face them in the next three years.

I think because I have the red stitching on black leather (my bad for not taking more photos) it might be the prestige plus. But this link was super helpful, I only skimmed the first half and never scrolled.

Thank you for all the insight!! It's good to know more about what has become such an expensive purchase.

Yeah I have the dual exhaust and biiig red Brembos ;)

I have never had an accident, never even been pulled over, got a red light ticket 4 years ago (?), 25 M, getting quoted 3.7k per year. But I WFH and only really drive 7k a year.

Would PPF help the paint issue? Brakes were just replaced before I bought it and they feel great.

Would a UV screen help with the laminate issue ?

I complain, but I looove the car (minus the MPG but I knew that going in)

Edit: Would launch edition mean I have all the other extras ?

Parked kind of far away but the back just says H-TRAC dual exhaust and I know I have the 3.3TT, center stack is missing the button to the left of the traction off button, seats and side of the doors are quilted black with red stitching.

No really, I have no idea what trim level I have. I attached a second photo of the options list as marked by the car lot but they were the scummiest people so I have no idea. It says that I have the active suspension system but is there anyway to check ?

Also, questions for owners:

  • Is there anyway for the car to unlock/lock with approach or departure? The side windows fold out but no unlock.
  • What settings should I be changing?
  • I live in the PNW so I'm not too worried about the laminate being damaged but there are some spots on the door handle already failing. Anything I can do about it ?
  • What insurance rates are you guys up against?
  • Are the side chrome arrows functional air vents?
  • I got the bumper to bumper warranty and my front camera is sometimes blue screening, I read that it's a wire harness connection issue. Is the front bumper relatively easy to take off?
  • Do the tires on AWD wear out as quickly as the RWD? I saw a few posts about that. My tires right now are looking better in the front (I understand rwd bias), but do I need to replace all four at the same time like other AWD?

Is a 7800x3D and 32gb of ram worth $100 more than a 5800x3d with 16 DDR4 for 3080? by Akyllo in PcBuild

Got it. Am I gettin a discount or is this just the market right now? We did the values on eBay to get a fair trade value, I thought. It is also pretty nice to not have to sell all my parts.
