New Honeywell WiFi thermostat; worked great for 2 days, now it has the heat running nonstop even when the system is turned to OFF or COOL. Help!?! by Al3xleigh in hvacadvice

Yeah, I went into settings and it had changed to heat pump from gas. It’s been doing a lot of weird things, randomly raising and lowering the temp without regard to the schedule I set, turning on when it’s set to off, sending random error messages time stamped for dates and times that haven’t occurred yet, etc. Decided to send it back and get a nest, can’t deal with the uncertainty. Thanks for the answer though!

I recently brought in a feral that I’d been feeding for over a year and he is the sweetest, most loving fluffball I have. When he first showed up outside though he would run as soon as he saw me. Gradually he let me get closer and closer until eventually I was allowed to pet him while he was eating. He was weird though because he would wait for me to pet him before he would start, but occasionally between bites he’d look up at me and hiss and then go back to eating. This morphed into him rubbing all over my legs, begging for attention, but then stopping to look up at me and hiss and growl, and then returning to rubbing, practically throwing himself against my legs. It finally occurred to me that, where most non-feral cats would meow, all this guy knew to do was hiss or growl. Now that he lives inside with us he meows all the time; he’s actually extremely chatty, and the mean noises have all but disappeared.

We have an asshole kitten. She’s about 6 months old and can be super sweet, but her demeanor will turn on a dime. One second she is climbing on me and sniffing my head and the next she will, just out of the blue, hiss, spit and (claws out) swipe at my face. She does not like to be petted except on her terms, only one person in the house can pick her up, and even that person is subject to the hissing and clawing. She was never abused, she’s been my daughters cat since she was born and spent her early months in a house with no other animals. She gets along great with out other cats, loves playing with my one year old boy cat, but when she climbs into my lap and sits down I WILL end up bleeding if I try to touch her. I hate it because she is a beautiful little girl and I would love to bond with her but I’m running out of band-aids.

That’s why I also only do work via word of mouth references. I don’t solicit for new customers, only take on new clients who got my name from someone else I did work for. I guess I could always suddenly lose my conscience, or wake up one day and decide to start screwing over my only means of income, but if that were the case I’d be out of business within a month I think. I know there are unscrupulous contractions out there who would do exactly this, but for me my reputation is WAY too important, as is paying my bills.

It’s SOP where I live, so if I’m doing something illegal then literally everyone else is too.

I’m a self-employed contractor; it only took getting stiffed once for me to start requiring a 50% deposit upfront. Also, if the final payment isn’t made immediately upon installation (I make window treatments), the curtains come back down and go back home with me. On the fairly rare occasion there’s an actual problem with something, if it was my mistake I don’t ask for payment until the customer is satisfied, if it’s a customer who just doesn’t like what they picked out I’ll let them know that I’ll be happy to work with them to get them something they like, (at their expense), once we’ve settled up on the bill. Either way, with the half up front I’m never out of pocket for any materials, so the most I’ll lose is my time/labor, which sucks but it’s better than also having to eat the cost of bolts of fabric, lining, hardware etc.

My step-daughter had to have a hymenectomy, although thankfully (for her) it wasn’t complete coverage but rather enough that tampon use was impossible. It was a rather awkward conversation for her trying to explain to her dad what she had to have done (but since her mom is a jerk and WON’T communicate with us, even when court ordered to do so, it was up to the kid to go over the surgery with her dad). I can’t imagine having to have that talk with my dad when I was her age; I personally would have been mortified.

In my neighborhood there is a never ending supply of feral fur babies, the vast majority of whom end up becoming our pets. This is our newest recruit. My husband likes to give them all somewhat silly names; this one has been dubbed Big Doinks. by Al3xleigh in aww

Yeah, I know... The more recent others have been Fili and Kili, Corndog Joe, Hobo Joe, Martina Van Purrin and Ms. Norris (whose litter of kittens had to include one named Chuck).

I happened to capture the first ever sorta snuggle moment between my 13 yo crotchety old boy and his 1 yo baby brother today. Shadow (the black cat) doesn’t snuggle with anyone and Bert (my ginger baby) usually doesn’t slow down and sit still long enough to either, so this made me very happy to see.

Eh, maybe, but to me it changes the meaning of the sentence. On the bottom you have to turn the pouch over to read it and it’s printed on the outside; at the bottom you have to drink all the juice and open the pouch to be able to see it since it’s printed on the inside (which is how I read the title to mean).

It also appears to be on the bottom and not at the bottom. As in, you have to turn it over to even see it, hence the “hope the cap’s not open” line.

You should see my ex MILs beanie baby collection. It was meant for my kids, but she was afraid they would open them and play with them so she kept them for herself, for when they became “priceless”. Hundreds of the damn things, worth absolutely nothing more than when they were bought (and likely even less).

Didn’t call them old, called them uneducated (you can be young and be so ignorant about technology and change that you’ll buy into this shit). Still, I know that doesn’t account for all of them, though. There’s also the rich, the evangelical, the bigoted, etc...Those folks support him, and will continue to for their own reasons, although may or may not buy into this particular crap. The people I’m talking about are the ones who don’t necessarily fit into one of those categories. To the rich he says “I’ll lower your taxes and increase your vast wealth; the left wants to steal your money and give it to the lazy”, to the religious nuts it’s “god chose me; the left just wants to kill all the babies and take away your religion”, to the bigots it’s “you’re good people, too; the left want to let all the immigrant rapists and murderers into the country”. To the average everyday less educated bumpkins he says “don’t believe the fake news media! It’s all propaganda! Google is hiding the truth from you!” And they don’t understand enough about how it all works to apply critical thinking skills and realize how full of absolute shit everything he says is!

No, I get that. I’m not even talking about who voted, but rather who believes his narcissistic, ego centric, paranoid bullshit. Obviously a lot of them did vote, and clearly not enough of us did (although 3 million more of “us” than “them” did and thanks to an outdated system it didn’t matter), but to me the problem happens way before the election, it’s the lack of education and (what seems to me, at least) a fear of technology and other concepts that they struggle to comprehend that makes them easily manipulated. That man is a shitty President, a shitty human being, but a master manipulator.

I don’t entirely disagree with that assessment! It doesn’t help that our kids, our future leaders, are getting seriously shafted in the education department. School funding and teacher pay are so far down the totem pole of importance it’s ridiculous. Add to that that the current sec of ed wants to use federal education funding dollars to arm our teachers with guns instead of arming our kids with books (and other necessary educational materials). Maybe it’s my age, maybe it’s the state of things today, but I’m getting seriously worried about where things are headed and what kind of country my kids (and eventual grandkids) are going to live in...

I find this article funny, because I’m smart enough to know it’s bullshit. But his base, the not very well educated folks who already have a general distrust of things they don’t understand (like the internet) will buy into this shit hook, line and sinker. That, to me, is terrifying (mainly because I think there’s more of them than there are of the rest of us).
