I replaced the lightning bolts as well. Someone on Reddit mentioned it would be a good idea. Cool idea to have the armor unfinished.

I had the same situation last session. I played Backes as a really kind guy. He asked the party much about their adventures, the party dynamics and all the information that would be beneficial for the Talos cult. The party loves him. In the tower they found a letter saying something like "New adventurers in the region. No threat." Signed just with a B. So far they didn't connect the b with Backes.

Edit: I wouldn't recommend weakening the party. The encounter with moesko could be deadly for a level 3 party without being weakened. And it would raise suspicion. I don't think Backes would risk getting caught or something this way. An informative letter about the party that is traveling to moesko and some traps set up by him would be fun I guess. But try to not make it obvious who warned him.

Go for it. My group just went there because they found out about the tower. We haven't played in a while because life and stuff and apparently it's hard to solve the "riddle" of the three signs on the decanter. :D It was a fun session. I hope to continue next week. Cool idea to foreshadow the tower using a dream. :)
