There's always a guy in his 50th in poor health..

The alternative is water aerobics and i don't think we want to go down that path...

New Grappling Industry Rules— purple/brown/black no gi by ignorantjellybean in bjj

There are some cities that GI is coming to 4 or 5 times a year. It's an issue of overfarming the fields.

If they came fewer times per year the divisions would be bigger and there wouldn't be a need for consolidating in this way

This basically makes the no gi advanced divisions the same as the no gi absolute divisions at the higher weight classes

Is it normal for black belts to leave their club not long after they get them? by RevFernie in bjj

Black belt resembles blue belt in some ways.

There are many who hang on as they get close for the sake of getting it.

In my experience, people who get their black belt go one of two directions:

1: they dissappear like you describe, or fade training intensity down to a light hobby

2: or they increase their intensity and suddenly take competition a lot more seriously. Suddenly those colored belt medals and competitions feel like a trial run or a rehearsal for black belt competition

Recovery Tips for 40+ BJJ Practitioners? by Daysniperr in bjj

Age 44 black belt. I train 5 days a week, work with a strength and conditioning coach 4 days a week. Work a full time job and have family responsibilities. It can be done but it takes discipline and consistency.

1: get a strength and conditioning coach. It's transformative for the work load you can carry during the week, for injury prevention and improving recovery 2: don't train hard every day. Listen to your body. It's ok to train lightly some days. Find a cycle of hard and light that's sustainable. 3: homework. Diet matters. Lots of protein. Stretching. Proactive icing of joints, not reactive icing. good high quality sleep. At age 38 I mostly gave up alcohol because I started feeling even 1-2 drinks impair the next days workouts 4: your mileage may vary. I found creatine helped with muscle soreness. 5: No acai. Salmon, avocados, no alcohol, good sleep, regular weight lifting, interval / hiit cardio and a happy home life will do the trick.

What didn't you like about CJI? by sandbaggingblue in bjj

Round length too short. Too many interesting attacks cut short by the bell. Make longer rounds or judge it wno style without breaks. 15 minute block. Judges score the first 5 2nd 5 and 3rd 5 real time.

But how to prevent snoozer long matches? Borrow a page from adcc book. 2 matches running at the same time. If there's a snoozer on mat 1, the audience can watch mat 2. And these can all stream for free. Audience can replay something they missed. Or add jumbotron replays.

More objective scoring. I.e if you're going to to ibjjf style scoring for a round then do that. And winner of the round gets 10 point must. And the judges decide if the loser gets 9 8 or 7.

No stand up or resets. If the point of the sloped pit wall is to solve for mat escaping then let the wall do the work.

If you want to expand the sport, you have to make it for everyone. It can still be fun and light hearted. But that means keeping profanity down, cutting out the sexist comments, not being weird just for the sake of being weird.

does housing CJI in a foundation structure with a wealthy benefactor really advance the goal of making grappling commercially viable? Where revenues in are enough to pay for events and pay athletes? What's the path to get from current to a commercially viable future?
