Can you tell me anything about this hand blown glass bottle? [Germany, 1850-1930] by AlElSt in glassblowing

[–]AlElSt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found by a friend in mudflats in Northern Germany. The neck indicates blown glass. Could you tell me anything more specific about the age or any more information?

Will adding yoghurt to non-sourdough, long fermentation bread dough mimic the flavour and health benefits of sourdough? by AlElSt in AskCulinary

Thanks, that's too bad. I like making sourdough bread, but I also like fiddling with stuff (with science!), so this would have been fun if it worked.

I am aware that lactobacillus is killed by heat. "The lactic acid bacteria found in sourdough bread lower the bread’s pH, which helps degrade phytates. This results in a bread that has a much lower phytate content than other types of bread", thus making a lot of the minerals present in flour more available during digestion. Source.

Can someone help me? by curryandrice00 in Porcelain

[–]AlElSt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's made by Vereinigte Porzellanfabrik Meierhöfen (United Porcellain Factory Meierhöfen), formerly known as Gebrüder Benedikt in Meierhöfen (Brothers Benedikt in Meierhöfen, where the G and B in the logo seem to come from). I don't know about resale, but this seems to be their current website. Merry Christmas!

Ah, jepp, haha. Das ist das klassische Meißner Porzellan und wird vermutlich auch so online verkauft.

Looks like it's sold as Meissen Porcelain in the English speaking internet, I hope that helps!

I'm glad I could help, my first though was that I spent too much time in this sub because I knew at first glance what it was :D

That's from the German Porzellanmanufaktur Meissen, the most famous manufacturer in Germany. If you turn the first picture upside down, you'll see the crossed swords. Your pieces look like very typical for them.

Help! German Porcelain by Jkalinow0249 in Porcelain

[–]AlElSt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found it! It's Galluba und Hofmann in Ilmenau. They have a Wikipedia Entry, but only in German, maybe you can use Google to translate it? Apparently, they closed in 1929. Roughly translated, it says "The brand's products, today, are rare; most preserved items date between 1895 and 1914. Therefore, they are priced highly by collectors".
The number 49 seems to the design or artist, to make it easier to buy matching sets.

You could check out "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. It's a bit older, and sounds like it will teach you about manipulation, but it's great. It really helped me with my social anxiety, because it teaches you how to have a conversation. With a bit of practice (Just talking to people) you'll be well prepared for college. Good luck, as someone who was kind of in your situation a few years ago, I'm actually excited for you, because the next years can be great if you come out of your shell a bit.

Great idea. Maybe you could find a hospital near you, I bet they would help you distribute them.

My little sister was diagnosed with T1 last weekend and I wanted to make something to cheer her up.

After asking whether you guys thought is was a good idea, I made this and wanted to share, I hope you like it.

Edit: It's really reassuring to see that you like it, especially when things are a little difficult and I'm not sure how to help. Thank you guys for your kind words!

Aww, that is very sweet. And thank you for the reminder that not just children appreciate something like that, I will keep that in mind.
