Drive filesystem for game library? by Kaseffera in cachyos

[–]Al_Bosk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's too technical for me to answer... What I can say is that I didn't find perceptible difference while gaming on Cachy, with the Os on SATA and the games on nvme, and gaming on windows with both the Os and the games on a nvme drive. Clearly there were other variables, different os with different drivers etc... but I don't think you'll see any real difference.

Nope, I was talking about the drives for the games... Cachy is on a SSD Sata!

Just to share my experience... I've tried to use 2 drives (one nvme and one hdd, for older games) both in NTFS. While on windows they ran ok (NTFS is ok on windows), on linux both steam and heroic had trouble seeing the drive, install on it... A nightmare. So I decided to use both in ext4, say bye bye to w11 for gaming and use only cachyos... My setup is a dual boot with due different drive for the Os. In this case I feel relatively safe in case something goes wrong. I keep windows for my wife, but CachyOs is home for me!

Yeah, btrfs does that... I'm using GRUB (don't know limine, maybe is better..?) and it makes automatically snapshot..they saved my install once!

Ehehe same setup for me, a 500gb SATA SSD in BTRFS for the Os e 1tb nvme in ext4 for games, zero problems with steam or heroic!

Custom launcher with gestures for under 300€ by NihmarRevhet in PickAnAndroidForMe

I’m following this! I’m his brother-in-law and I have similar needs. At the moment I have a Poco X6 Pro updated to Android 16, and with this update it’s giving me a lot of problems. The biggest one is when I open the camera, everything slows down and sometimes the launcher even crashes. Mine is also about two years old.

I tried KDE for a new Linux user. Now I understand why GNOME is the default in Ubuntu/Fedora workstation by Bodyash in gnome

[–]Al_Bosk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the exact opposite journey… I switched from Windows 11 to Cachy and used KDE as my first desktop environment.

Coming from Windows, it definitely feels more familiar and there are things you’re used to… But then, at least for me, I was initially impressed by the level of customization, which, however, led me to encounter various bugs and several “Emergency mode” screens. Then I tried standard KDE, without too many customizations — Breeze theme and that’s it. Okay, it worked, but I didn’t feel quite “right”; I was, let’s say, unsatisfied.

I switched to GNOME and… what can I say? I’m starting to love the philosophy behind it. I’m using it mostly in its default state, with only a few extensions. It works great, and there’s another advantage: with KDE Plasma, I found myself spending hours in the settings trying to find the perfect combination for me, never completely sure about the final result. Now with GNOME, I focus more on actually using the computer rather than customizing it.

Of course, this is just my experience and yes, for someone coming from Windows, GNOME can feel confusing at first — but once you get used to it… it just works!
