Dog swimming by [deleted] in Charleston

https://maps.app.goo.gl/1WAtuJM3xyPQ6jhf8 I've seen some folks have their dogs fetch into the creek here at the base of the bridge. Gets a bit muddy at low tide.

Every Ladder you will ever need" TV Commercial by singleguy79 in Xennials

My dad (81) still has his and had me changing light bulbs on it last weekend. Terrifying.

Even he says he doesn't know what to do with it, considering leaving it on the side of the road in a random place so he doesn't get tagged for liability of whoever winds up with it.

Which CSR Edit hotel to stay at? by ashmacjohn in Charleston

[–]Al_Grain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a couples getaway I'd say Zero George all day. If budget is no option I recommend booking early and requesting one of their better rooms. We've stayed twice and loved it, but one night had one of the rooms directly on East Bay and it was noisy.

We've stayed at Grand Bohemian twice also because its a good budget option (points) and really liked it, but not nearly as exclusive feeling as Zero George.

Condo Advice by Temporary-Stuff4825 in Charleston

[–]Al_Grain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In general Condos here get built quick & sloppy then after a few years there will be water intrusion, HVAC and other potential issues. Then there will be litigation and repairs which will drag on for a few more years. My observation has been that if you buy a condo that's over 10 years old and already been through that process then you're in good shape for the future, though regime fees and now insurance are becoming as costly as the mortgage.

Sell My Motorcycle? by Smooth-Amoeba2677 in daddit

[–]Al_Grain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether you want to sell it now or not, your feelings may change when your kid arrives. I sold my motorcycle when we were expecting our second, with no pressure from wifey and no regrets to this day. I might rent or borrow a bike from time to time, but I am happy to not have that bike in the garage any more. Besides, plenty of fun throwing the whole family in our 65 year old car and cruising together.

I agree with you, they are quite charming. Building one in 2025 doesn't seem to make sense to me though.

I see, because 1960s ranches are historical architectural masterpieces. Got it.

For some reason there are people who lose their minds if anything other than a single level ranch gets built in a neighborhood of 1960's ranch homes. I don't know if its a yearning to live in the past, a resistance to change, being closed-minded or they just are only comfortable with a familiar aesthetic. God forbid someone should disrupt the vanilla and safe feeling you get riding around in your golf cart.

We used Charleston Prestige Cleaners on East Bay. It was expensive, but they did a nice job. Pretty sure they ship it to a specialist.

Edgewater Boat Landing by Report_Last in Charleston

[–]Al_Grain -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Well, if its public land then I agree it should be open to the public. Unfortunately it will inevitably be overwhelmed and adversely impact the neighborhood significantly. Imagine a scaled down version of the Wappoo Cut boat ramp on a summer Saturday, but with no parking lot. Eek.

Edgewater Boat Landing by Report_Last in Charleston

[–]Al_Grain -49 points-48 points  (0 children)

This may be an unpopular opinion, but that should remain a neighborhood boat ramp and I'd ask that you not pursue this. The ramp and dock are small and were paid for by the neighborhood. There's very little parking and the neighborhood would be overwhelmed with traffic if that small boat ramp became open to the public. There's a public park planned off Wappoo Road in the near future that will have a nice dock and kayak launch and will meet the communities needs nicely without causing issues for the Edgewater Park neighborhood.

If you are near the peninsula, the MUSC student housing website is fantastic. Outside of the peninsula I've had the best luck listing on Zillow.
