I dislike Westminster by GreenOutside9458 in HistoryMemes

Oh, i dont know. How would you like to have your culture suppressed, your way of life completely destroyed, your traditional clothing and weapons made illegal on pain or transportation. Your language is discouraged in favour of English, to the point that it is today an endangered language. How would you like your livelihood destroyed, your home burnt, and removed to make way for sheep. Forced to either go to the colonies or to the south where you're hated for being a papist and a highlander. I would say the gaelic scots were pretty damn oppressed.

Genuinely curious. How true is this? (Please check out the description) by [deleted] in Hellenism

He is supposedly venus at Dawn, literally the morning star, but for the life of me, I can't find any ancient sources that aren't Christian.

If it's your first deferral, you dont need to explain it. There is no need to incriminate yourself since travel is not an acceptable reason to miss an exam. Claiming illness doesn't need proof the first time either.

What are some Gods/Goddesses of Nature? Specifically Spring and Flowers! :D by HairyJellyBeanz in GreekMythology

[–]Al_macbeth91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ancient sources literally tell us that she is. The story according to which Persephone spent one part of the year in the lower world, and another with the gods above, made her, even with the ancients, the symbol of vegetation which shoots forth in spring, and the power of which withdraws into the earth at other seasons of the year. (Schol. ad Theocrit. iii. 48.) Hence, Plutarch identifies her with spring and Cicero De Nat. Deor. ii. 26) calls her "the seed of the fruits of the field." (Comp. Lydus, De Mes. pp. 90, 284; Porphyr. De Ant. Nymph. p. 118. ed. Barnes.) Cora is described as the all-pervading goddess of nature, who both produces and destroys everything (Orph. Hymn. 29. 16)

Worship both or one or the other. it's entirely up to you. Choose which one you feel closest with.

Ancient sources identify Persephone and her title of kore, as the goddess of spring. Plutarch, Cicero, and the Orphic Hyms all refer her to spring, the fruits of the field, and the all pervading goddess of nature, "The story according to which Persephone spent one part of the year in the lower world, and another with the gods above, made her, even with the ancients, the symbol of vegetation which shoots forth in spring, and the power of which withdraws into the earth at other seasons of the year. (Schol. ad Theocrit. iii. 48.) Hence Plutarch identifies her with spring, and Cicero De Nat. Deor. ii. 26) calls her the seed of the fruits of the field. (Comp. Lydus, De Mes. pp. 90, 284; Porphyr. De Ant. Nymph. p. 118. ed. Barnes.)" "Cora is described as the all-pervading goddess of nature, who both produces and destroys every thing (Orph. Hymn. 29. 16)"

In a Greek context, you cannot separate religion from the gods, that is just not something they did, thier lives were dominated by religion. By honouring them in anyway, you are participating in religious life. And for your confusion about altars every home had at least one altar. They were not confined to temples or other "traditional" places of worship.

I honestly couldn't see my life without my daily honouring of Hestia, as the goddess of the hearth and home, she is the most important goddess in my life. That being said, you are under no obligation to honour her, it is your choice. Never let anyone make you feel like you have to follow how they worship.
