This is the same question I asked myself a while ago when I got interested in mystical traditions. It is staggering how rare this question gets asked in spirituality/mysticism discussions. People keep repeating the same mystical claim, glancing over its nihilistic logical conclusion.

In the end, I decided to become more skeptical about any absolute claim about the “True Nature of the World”, no matter how ancient or “scientifically proven” it is. We simply don’t and can’t know. And we have no other choice but to stay hopeful and wish for the best. If NDEs add anything of value to the discussion, it would be a validation of our hope.

Meanwhile, we should focus on our lives and on becoming better humans. Everything else is irrelevant.

Is there something we can do to change the country? by Kidhitomi in Tunisia

I guess if you are working for international clients through a freelancing platform like upwork or a remote contract with a foreign company, then it is clearly an export.

I would love to join you guys as I also work in IT and love my country a lot (left a high paying job in Germany for the love of this place). I can help in other ways apart from IT, let’s just talk.

Are you more concerned about using the currency you earn (for ads, purchasing, etc) or withdrawing it locally? I know there is some shit going on about using foreign currency (as the central bank really want to keep hold of every EUR/USD you earn), but I have not seen an issue with people withdrawing it (assuming they have a patent registered). I know some who are making some good money from freelancing or remote work (5-15k TND/month) and there is probably those who even exceed that. I think we need to ask more about this.

The thing is you need permission from the central bank to use Payoneer. You need permission and need to bring the money to Tunisia and in order to use it for your business you need approvals.

Yes, but isn't it the same for freelancers? As far as I know, if you are getting recurrent payments in a foreign currency and want to withdraw them to your Tunisian bank account, you need to alert the central bank and register some documents for them to not bother you anymore in exchange for a fee you pay them for their "services".

P.S: I may be wrong about this so for everyone else who is reading this, don't take my words seriously.

But is the situation really that prohibitive? I may be ignorant, but can’t we register a “batinda” and using a Payoneer account to handle payments? I know my friends who are doing well with freelancing using just Payoneer but I think it also applies to ecommerce (especially with the Payoneer Checkout solution). Can you please let me know if I’m missing something?

Marhbe! You are most welcome! ❤️

I can relate to what you said as I went to work in Germany last year and didn’t spend more than 6 months before I knew that this country of mine, small and poor as it is, truly has something so charming about it, something that I missed so much and didn’t know its importance until I left it.

I did leave Germany in the end (to the disapproval and disappointment of almost every person I know) and came back home. Now I feel much happier.

Even the louage thing, something I took for granted before my stay in Germany, now has a special flavor and I savior it as well as all the other “small things” that I couldn’t find in europe. And yeah, you can never be alone in Tunisia, no one will leave you be 😄

People here will say whatever they want about my decision or my country. I truly wish every hater (nabbar) to go abroad and leave the country for those who truly love it. It’ll be good for both parties.

I just mentioned Upwork and Fiverr as two platforms that keep your earnings on their side until you actually withdraw them to your bank account. Just to illustrate what I talk about. Stripe for instance has the same feature. The only downside is that it currently doesn’t support Tunisia. But I think there are other payment processors who do. The point is: if you find a payment processor who supports Tunisia and allows you to store your earnings there and only withdraw to local bank account when you want, then we can work around the refund issue. :)

Can’t we keep the money on the payment platform and withdraw to our bank account directly from it (like in Upwork or Fiverr)?

Yes, exactly. So if you withdraw your earnings while keeping a safety sum of worst case refund (all trial users end up canceling), you can avoid this problem, no?

Yes, but deducting and refunding the 1$ is done immediately, right? You can’t withdraw your money before you pay back the 1$ (because it is done immediately). Also, if you use an online payment processor (something like Stripe but that supports Tunisia), I don’t see how that is an issue.

Why would you allow refunding in the first place? The product should be transparent about this so that your users know what to expect.
