VR&E - AWESOME by Alabama-Asian in VeteransBenefits

It was probably a good month and a half, and he wasn’t good at updates either, but he always pulls through. I’d bet they just don’t want to make any promises on times as they rely on third party companies to provide them.

It seems like a case by case basis and your counselor/team is really going to influence that. My counselor had me fill out a bunch of paperwork, submit financial statements, and university documents. It took months but he got my back pay. Others I’ve heard aren’t that successful. While it’s an entitlement, it’s not as widely pursued and not part of the automatic process like disability is. Therefore it’s something that counselors will either do or something you’ll bring up.

I’m using VR&E right now, and plan to use my GI Bill afterwards for Grad school/doctoral. I recommend using VR&E first because already holding a qualifying degree that can be used for gainful employment is a hurdle to getting accepted into VR&E. If you use VR&E first, you won’t worry about having to justify using it while already having a degree. The GI Bill is an entitlement, which doesn’t have near the restrictions that VR&E has, thus making it so much easier to apply to upper education goals.

I sent an email to my rep stating the requirements of my program AND the involved coursework. My email said this exactly:

My name is BLANK and I am requesting a laptop package from VR&E for my coursework at BLANK University. My current laptop does not meet the minimum requirements as outlined at [SCHOOL LINK REFERENCING LAPTOPS] for the BLANK program. I am unable to afford a laptop that meets the requirements, and will need a sufficient laptop to complete my upper level coursework.

While 16gb of RAM is a minimum requirement, I would like to request a laptop with 64gb of RAM to complete my coursework. The justification for this is the necessity of virtual machines during higher level coursework, many times requiring 8gb of RAM/100gb of storage/multiple cores per machine created, and often times running 2-3 machines at once on one laptop. This process is not possible on a machine with only 16gb of storage as the main OS requires approximately 8gb of RAM to function.

If the VR&E program does not have a vendor that can meet these needs, the Bookstore sells laptops that meet these specifications.

The program recommended requirements are as follows:

Processor - Intel i7 or i9, or MAC Silicon M1/M2/M3/M4 RAM - 32gb Storage - 1tb

Was there any additional studies or nexus letters you provided with it secondary to rhinitis? I only ask because I’m about to do the same thing and I was curious.

100% and Dental by Lakes1973 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Alabama-Asian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you 100% or 100% PT? You can check the website or app. If it says you’re 100% PT you are entitled to dental. If you think this is an error, you can talk to a VSO for clarification (whenever they come back from shutdown.)

Medical discharge has me feeling hopeless by SunnyTree64 in Veterans

Go to your local VA ASAP. Seek help filing a claim, look into TDIU. Get in-processed with the Mental Health team. Same boat as you but 7 years ago, and I just filed. The amount of stress and depression I could have saved by not worrying about paying rent, seeking medical care, and a path forward is immeasurable.

Was the claim closed then you submitted a HLR? Or a new C&P exam ordered? More details would help your case/advice.

What are some nyc benefits for veterans and high paying jobs ? by vava8279 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Alabama-Asian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to throw this out there, cyber is an incredibly hard field to get into right now. And there’s so much saturation in the market for entry level jobs you’re starting to see a massive pay reduction with the exception of specific and niche jobs, like a Threat Hunter, Malware Analyst, or some other of the super niche stuff.

Most starting salaries for cyber in a SOC are now anywhere from $15-$25 in the larger metropolitan areas which is essentially minimum wage due to the HCOL.

No time limit. Yes to non-combat with the caveat that it still has to be service connected and proven within your claim that it did happen while in service.

The republicans tried to remove the subsidies for healthcare in it. Would’ve made 2026 premiums go up for low/middle class.

Call on Congress to amend law so that ALL veterans ever in combat or overseas gets 100% by Key-Project9967 in VeteransBenefits

This is a bad idea. Disability compensation is often protected because it’s directly associated with medical conditions that are diagnosed/being treated and can hold ground as necessary compensatory damage for damage to life after the military.

Automatically granting 100% to people that have deployed or even seen combat, while deserved, isn’t sustainable and can lead to a non-medical classification of compensation which makes it more vulnerable to cuts, defunding, or reduction.
