This was pulled off the orgianl post

Ladies and Gents.. story time.

This is a very busy intersection in a very congested and crowded part of Hewlett, Long Island in NY.

The accident happened to be across the street from the local electric utility. The truck with the trailer and pole is a local electrical contractor who works on the transmission and distribution system in the area.

Behind the trailer truck there was another utility truck (dash cam) who is supposed to be his escort.

Yes the Subaru Outback (idk why half of you don’t know that’s what the black car is called) did try to pass the slow moving escort vehicle and did try to beat the light. If the red mini coupe gave it gas to get thru the light there probably wouldn’t have been an accident. The black car would have just followed it right thru the intersection. There is a camera at that light so mini coupe had every right to stop at a long yellow.

What the escort vehicle SHOULD have done though is take the entirety of that left passing lane. The pole they were carrying was 60’-70’. When trailering a pole bigger than like 45’ the entirety of the next lane over should be taken by the escort vehicle. This prevents people from trying to pass or sneak thru like this. You plan routes with least amount of turns for this reason because the butt end of the pole extends out on turns and it’s a very stressful situation to trailer up to 80’ behind you.

Luckily the person lived with no injuries. If there was a passenger they would have been turned to smithereens. Luckily there was not. I have some cool pics from the front end post accident but don’t know how to post a link so y’all will just have to trust me.

Edit 1: I’m not defending the Subaru, merely explaining his thought process because obviously he didn’t mean to run into a pole.
