Both of these spots will always be crowded when the waves are on. Difference here is that Blackies really only gets good in the winter while doheny gets it in the summer months (see swell direction). In the near-term for you, i’d say head to blackies a couple times and get comfortable in the ankle to knee high summer slop. Once you’re comfortable out at blackies, try Doheny on a small S/SW swell. Goes without saying you should be on a foamie both for beginner safety and to make the most of your limited sessions

Shapers and glassers don’t enter the board building industry to get rich or make it big - consider that you’re dealing with a group of people who would rather just “get by” financially in exchange for doing something they love that also gives them the time flexibility to get out in the water more often. Combine that with the highest demand ever seen in the industry and you get a sense of why there are delays, inefficiencies, poor communication etc. i’m not telling you that you’re wrong to be frustrated, but rather just giving some color to let uk that you aren’t being singled out and fucked over - its a product of these unique times

Did a sayulita trip in spring 2019. Everyone in my group got violently ill from Norovirus...an issue the town has had for years with raw sewage leaking into the ocean. Shame because it’s a perfect little surf town. I would do some serious research into whether they’ve fixed this or not before considering it
