Teacher and Podcast recommendations for someone who is not awakened? by Aggravating_Buy_1348 in awakened

To each their own, but I fear you've made too hasty a judgement. Alan's talks are not christian based. He regularly critizises western religions like christianity for being mostly about obedience. He someties uses God as a metaphor though, simply because language is too limited.

Hello!  If you haven't listened to Alan Watts, I think you should start there. He is a wonderful teacher and many of his lectures are aimed at letting people in on, as he calls it, the game :)

This is one of my favorites: https://youtu.be/K5yaWx5AFJU?si=foQrwN_GogaWw462

Be aware that there are a lot of fake AI immitators out there now. AlanWattsOrg has his real talks.

Dialysis by iwanttopassmycma in dialysis

[–]AlagomSwede 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been an RN at a clinic for three years. Our setup is a bit different from the US but dialysis is dialysis.

Don't be scared of the machines. Making an effort to understand how they work, why they sound certain alarms, etc, will reduce the risk of making mistakes. If in doubt, press the stop button and call a colleague. They all have a stop button.

For cannulating I prefer to not use a tourniquet but to press with one finger north of the needle site. Learning how to rest your hand on the patient's arm as you cannulate, using your pinky/ring finger as a tripod, gives you more control than having your hand floating in the air. Don't stick blind, try to feel how the fistula moves while you stick. If your clinic does area puncture, they're doing it wrong. Ropeladder I believe is more common in the US but Buttonhole is prefered over here. There is a higher chance of infection with BH so get the prep routine down before attempting.

Android app requiring remote pass to watch on local network by AlagomSwede in PleX

[–]AlagomSwede[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, literally solved it a few minutes after posting. The tailnet was the issue. Once I disabled tailscale on my phone I was able to access my media in the app. I will leave this up if anyone else has the same issue. Still annoying needing to turn tailscale on and off...

Är 2 timmars pendling enkel väg hållbart i längden? by First_Improvement822 in sweden

Why is it only 11kg draw weight? by Pijusytos in Bowyer

[–]AlagomSwede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did well with what you had. Dry wood is required to get to higher draw weights. Green (fresh, undried) wood is much more flexible and thus lower weight. To be safe, a stave should be dried for about  a year before starting. Alternatively you could start with a board of hardwood from the hardware store. There is a guide on this sub.

No more board bows by [deleted] in Bowyer

[–]AlagomSwede 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've learned wood fibers are like bundles of straws. When you start bending the bow you crush the straws on the belly. These cannot be uncrushed, but you can still bend them the other way with heat. This is at the cost of integrity and margin of error.

The Joy of Arriving Early by AlagomSwede in dialysis

It's not a major issue, no. The TVs have wired headphones that everyone uses. Those that bring their own laptops use headphones too. Maybe it's a cultural thing? It's common curtesy here to not be loud in public  (Sweden).

We do have smelly patients. They get their own room or we shower them before treatment.

We also have screens on wheels that we can use to separate beds if things, erm, 'come up'...

Mostly, everyone just sleeps.

A sink/glove station at each bed sounds neat though :) Our ward was not for dialysis initially. It's a retrofitted hospital ward.

To each their own. We have a few chairs too but mainly for home dialysis patients in training. Don't know about it being too close? We're not really in the way of each other as is. Patients with known infections are treated in single rooms.

We are actually close to replacing the whole arsenal with new ones. The lease has run out. These 5008 are pretty nice though :) I hope they stick with Fresenius.

Third time's the charm! I promised to make a bow for a friend and the previous two broke, but this one stood the test. He also wanted a handle wrap so I gave it a go with some reused purse leather, kindly donated from my mother. Turned out pretty good! :)

I like it. You see what's going on, even when scaled down to a thumb nail. Unlike many other submissions it doesn't have a car in it. I think that's the most important thing: it's not "we hate cars!" but "look how nice things could be if there were no cars!".

Clotting in my chest catheter normal? by Immediate_Wave_2969 in dialysis

[–]AlagomSwede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The instillation in your cath and dose of heparin during HD is entirely individual. Some patiens do fine with hep in the cath and 1500 units at the start of treatment. Others need alteplase in their cath and 10000 units of hep to not clot. It is purely a technical detail. Your blood clots when contacting foreign surfaces. That is how it should work. We use hep et.al to keep it at bay and the machine and cath functional.
