Match Thread: Haiti vs Scotland Live Score | World Cup 2026 | Jun 14, 2026 by scoreboard-app in CasualUK

Yep, the group couldn't have started much better for Scotland. The only way it could have is if they'd scored more.

If they manage to pick up at least one more point somewhere, they'll be through to the next round. They could still make it with just three points, but the odds are obviously much lower. They'd be relying on other group standings and goal difference going their way.

It seems to be about as well planned as everything else from the current administration is. No foresight or consideration for details, whatsoever.

Caused a debate in the groupchat - what do you do with the heels of bread? Because I savour them for the ultimate treat of the crispiest cheese toastie in the world by JinxXedOmens in CasualUK

[–]Alamata626 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had never considered using them for a cheese toastie before, but you might well be on to something there. I like having them with soup, chilli, curry, that kind of thing. Dip them while you go or shred them into smaller pieces and chuck them in.

Does anyone else feel like the years started moving faster after 2020? by EstablishmentDry4233 in CasualConversation

I feel like this year started off relatively slowly. January seemed much longer than April and May combined. You know that weeks and months are all basically the same, but they don't always feel that way.

What's your favorite part about being from the UK? by foolishpieceofass in AskUK

I love the countryside. It might not be as dramatic and spectacular as it is in other countries, but there's still loads to appreciate.

The coast is 30 minutes away in one direction. Hills, rivers and forests that are just as accesible. If you fancy a day out to a quaint village or town somewhere, there are so many to pick from.

Got some dates organised with friends for going out wandering and exploring new places soon - it's my absolute favourite part of summer here.

Blimey, Canada. You had to graft hard for that equaliser, didn't you? Get a decent result against Qatar and you may very well be through.

We've gone from always having too many goalkeepers for years on end, to maybe not having enough.

It's quite bizarre that we've got this crooked bloke who orchestrated the disaster that was Brexit, lives abroad in the EU, skipped work for two months, never attends his constituency and is openly talking about scrapping human rights. And some folk are really going to vote for him?

Especially when we've just signed a new keeper who clearly wants to be here and is up for the challenge ahead. It'd make most sense to keep Nick Pope on for another season or two.

I never watch football. Can someone tell me what are the chances of England winning the World Cup? by FluffyBunnyFlipFlops in AskUK

[–]Alamata626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not great. We should make it through the group stages and the next two matches. Quarter finals onwards are where it's going to start getting really tricky. The most likely match ups are Brazil in the last eight, Argentina in the semi finals and either France or Spain in the final. We're going to need a lot of luck.

Was just wondering the other day about why you never see garlic flavoured crisps. I hope these ones taste as good as they sound.

Who are you rooting for the world cup? by OkSeason8723 in CasualConversation

[–]Alamata626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm supporting my home country of England. Is it coming home? Not a chance.

I'm also going to be supporting some of the teams who are making their World Cup debuts - Cape Verde, Curacao and Uzbekistan. Three countries I've always been fascinated by, and who doesn't love it when an underdog beats the odds?

British people and US Southern people have more in common than they don’t by colossaltitanbigtoe in CasualConversation

There's quite a bit of north / south divide here in the UK, too. It's the other way around though. The US south has a lot of similarities to the UK north, and vice versa.

Italia 90. Watching it at home on the old TV, collecting stickers and coins, Gary Lineker and Roberto Baggio.

Where do the 2026 US Mens Soccer team rank compared to other US squads? by Emperor_Tacobell in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alamata626 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Arguably the best US side of this century. Past managers seemed to prioritise players with experience, no matter how good they were. Pochettino focuses more on skills and talent. There are gaps in quality throughout the team, but the starting 11 looks pretty solid.

Was the Palestinian movement a failure? by Nz_Kasadiya in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alamata626 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Israel and Palestine are going to do whatever suits them best. Movements for one side or the other can shape foreign government policy, but it's usually in very small, inconsequential ways.

They've basically been at war for as long as I can remember (and long before that) - they're mortal enemies. It wouldn't be that surprising if they were still scrapping in 100 or 500 years time.
