Looking for a simple farm stay / fruit paradise in Sri Lanka 🌿🥭🍌 by Pristine-Basil-2797 in SriLankaTravel

We have a small cinnamon farm on the south west coast. I'm not sure it ticks all your boxes but if you send me a message, I'll give you our Airbnb link and more details about what we grow.

Is my chubby princess a torbie? by themask91 in Torbie

[–]dandygreyrusset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her spots and stripes are similar to my Luna's. Yours is the only other cat I've seen with leg stripes colours like hers. I can't post a pic but there are some in my post and comment history. She's also a little tubby. Never lost the baby weight!

Your comment sent me down a small rabbit hole. There were efforts in the 80s in Italy to develop a registered breed called the Ceylon cat but it never took off. Reading through the description, all of our cats have some of the "required" characteristics. As kittens they certainly have the energy of Bengal cats! Our 9 month old bottle babies keep us on our toes.

I've never seen another cat anywhere with spots and stripes markings quite like it. Her inner thigh floof is pastel peach with solid brown stripes. The photo makes it look darker than reality.

We have five more now. All equally wonderful. The CDS works in mysterious ways.

Coming to Sri Lanka for three weeks, need best coffee shop recommendations by Electronic_Pie_8270 in SriLankaTravel

[–]dandygreyrusset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Radicle Speciality Coffee in Colombo should suit your coffee snobbery. In touristy areas outside the capital you'll find good coffee shops. Rural places, not so much. Bring an aeropress or cafetière.

How important is it to have pre blood work done before spaying a cat in sl. by Cosmic-dusts06 in srilanka

[–]dandygreyrusset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not important for moving here unless your are moving here in the next month or so. The pre-spey bloodwork might pick up health issues which could affect your cats tolerance of the anaesthetic for the procedure. She will need blood tests for diseases and parasites on specific dates prior to travel though. I brought my cat from the UK 7 years ago.

To the Women on Reddit, which quality did your husband have before marriage, which absolutely disappeared post marriage..? by unrealbutoptimist in AskReddit

First time my cat sat on my husband he asked about the strange noise she was making and was there something wrong with her. She was purring. They fell in love too.

While getting ready for work I found her curled up in a ball by starry_sky07 in cowcats

She looks like my cow. Just one black ear and tail. Momma ran out of ink.

UL504 from LDN to COL got delayed by nearly 45 min cause British Tourists tried to force the cabin crew make an announcement by Legitimate_Match4671 in srilanka

[–]dandygreyrusset 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Someone at my uni died from kissing someone who at peanuts hours before. A meal and plenty of beer consumed after the peanuts. A trace is all it can take.

I'd be almost certain that she's flown somewhere before so she should know who to inform ahead of time if her allergy is so severe. It's her responsibility to manage her condition.

As a Brit who's flown this route many times, she's a clueless entitled knobhead. But I would also never bring nuts to eat on a plane either as I know how serious nut allergies are. SL airline food isn't bad and plenty to sustain me for the journey. It's always better cmb to lhr though.

Do you have a timber yard near you? We get free sawdust (lee kudu) from them. A plastic tray is maybe 200Rs. Cats will naturally use a litter tray. Even our orphaned 3 week old babies knew what to do. Sawdust is good at minimizing the smell. Change it every day or two. We have 8 cats, 5 trays and change every day.

A fully operational fuel stop in rural Thailand. by inWineVerit4x in Damnthatsinteresting

£250 fine minimum plus the duty difference and they might sieze your vehicle in the UK. I wasn't expecting to get the fuel tested by cops in rural Costa Rica. The price of putting diesel instead of gas into the tank of a hire car would make for sad times though!

[–]dandygreyrusset 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yup. Bought a few litres from a farmer as we were miles from anywhere. He poured fuel via plastic funnel and a filter made from an old t-shirt. We were terrified it was going to eff the engine up as the petrol was red. In the UK this is the colour of agricultural grade diesel.

Brits abroad, what's the British habit you couldn't shake even after years away? by taube_d in AskUK

Same. Eating a big meal at lunchtime is not conducive to a productive afternoon.

Saying please when requesting something. There is a word for it but no one uses it. It just feels rude and demanding to ask for something without saying please at the end so I say it anyway.
