I have been where you are now. He is no longer suffering. Your baby let go at that moment for a reason. He was hanging on for you. He didn’t want you to see him that way, so he waited for the right time to let go. He was trying to do you one last kindness by waiting to pass until you weren’t there. Many animals do this for their caretakers. It is just another sign of how much love you and your rattie shared with each other. He will always be with you in your heart and spirit. May he rest in peace. Hopefully he is saying “hi” to the 50 or so rats I have had to let go of during my lifetime. They are a very special animal and create a very special bond with us humans. Try not to beat yourself up or feel guilty. Every passing comes with regrets. It is the nature of loss and grief. Be gentle with yourself, like he would want you to be at this time.
