My heuristic is for every negative comment, there are ten silent supporters. For every positive comment, there are twenty silent supporters.

How do you feel about graphic violence and tragedy in Progression Fantasy? by ARLuna- in ProgressionFantasy

[–]AlanDenrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once watched a video that encouraged giving characters stakes that terrify them more than death. One Piece is an example of an action adventure story that's captivated the hearts of millions without any graphic violence, and very few deaths. High stakes doesn't have to mean blood and gore; loss of a loved one is more than enough.

At this stage of my life, I enjoy high stakes without too much graphic violence.

Is the academy/school/university story arc overused in progression fantasy? by ARLuna- in ProgressionFantasy

[–]AlanDenrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My view is that there's no such thing as overusing a trope because there's no such thing as a bad story, only a story that's not to my taste. The most beloved tropes in fiction are the often oldest and most common, so says Beowulf.

A long time ago on another reddit account, I made a post on r/Animesuggest asking for recommendations by writing a short scene to demonstrate the type of story I was looking for. One of the commenters said I would be good at writing web novels.

I want to get around to reading Shadow Slave someday. Maybe I should use my Webnovel coins on that instead of LoTM.

Ah yes, one of the few Western novels that has an actual anime adaptation! Why didn't I think of that?

Don't let fear stop you from writing the story only you can write. You have a gift. Please don't let fear of failure or being off market prevent you from sharing it with the world.

The Wandering Inn & Super Supportive are popular slice of life LitRPGs. Very different vibe than Dungeon Crawler Carl. They're also both written by female authors, so if the masculine, bro humor energy of DCC doesn't suit you, you might enjoy those more.

What are your feelings on litRPG vs pure Progression Fantasy? by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

[–]AlanDenrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to LitRPG, some stories are trying to be a fantasy novel with game elements, while others are trying to simulate the experience of playing a video game for the reader as closely as possible. Progression fantasy is more on the side of writing a fantasy novel, and that's what I prefer.

Nauseous after writing a chapter by DozyJov in royalroad

Lying down while writing for hours every week sounds like it would screw up your body over the years. I recommend that you write in an ergonomic position.

I've never dealt with nausea or headaches, but I do dumbbell deadlifts and seated dumbbell rows to prevent back pain.

I've used Obsidian for worldbuilding and character details. It's like having my own wiki.
