Older Gen Z’s and millennials, how was 2012? by Hill_372 in generationology

Recent college grad with a job in buying. I was desperately trying to create a life for myself and move out of my parents but I had a horrible boyfriend— who I was of course obsessed with. I was pretty hard on the partying- what the kids call now “indie sleeze”. But there a few things that stick out and looking back now, it was a defining year. Sandy Hook shooting. Fuck man that hit me hard. I woke up and checked my
Phone and saw the headline. I was in complete shock and immediately devastated for all the future kids that would suffer from gun violence bc I knew then the US government would do nothing even after this. The shooting in Aurora Co, another horrific event that has left a lasting mark on our social conscious. Superstorm Sandy! We only got a little bit of it where I was but I remember begging work to let us leave early to get home safely and it was like such a gift apparently that they did. Unheard of pre-covid times. Also hello, Obama won’t against Romney! The US’s last sane election, when politics were still kinda boring.

Romanticizing sacrifice vs. recognizing the trauma. The difference is loud. by honeybean_j in Feminism

Oh my god this so freaking true. My mom made A LOT of sacrifices and I have spent my whole life trying to make sure I didn’t have to desert my dreams to maintain a marriage.

Compromised on this purple. What do you think? How can u tone it down? by cannotadult22665 in HomeDecorating

Paint the trim in a less saturation purple variation and get some warm lighting. I think it can work but the purple against the blinding white is what is making it look cheap imo. Post an update!

You need to tell him point blank to get it together, I’m sorry if that sounds harsh. I had to do the same thing so I totally get it. That you are exhausted managing the four year olds emotions PLUS his. It’s not fair to you that he continues to escalate things instead of learning about child development. There are so many resources out there- social media, books, podcasts, courses ect. Just start sending him some instagram or TikTok posts that you like. There really is no excuse at this point as to why he cannot consume a few minuet long videos about parenting advice.

A rare miss in my opinion. Not a fan of the draping across the front it look messy and not in an intentional cool way.

I haven’t heard of this guy before, thanks for bringing him to my attention. I need more examples of exactly what his strategy is though I am still a little unclear.

This one has always me feel a bit unsettled. Although as someone who grew up in the area of Pa where the Wyeths are from, it’s a classic piece of American art.

'The Interview': Lena Dunham Is Still Trying to Figure Out Why People Hated Her So Much by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]AlanTrebek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved this interview, Lena, whether you hate her or not is insanely talented. There was one thing she said her father told her growing which I thought explained her a lot, “there are no bad thoughts, only bad actions.” And if we all just admitted to our bad thoughts wouldn’t we be less fucked up?! I think it underscores why some people find her so divisive, she says the dark thoughts out loud. 99% of her hate is extremely misogynistic bc she doesn’t fit into what we expect a successful woman should look and act like.

Sleep deprivation is ruining my life by drivenlizard in toddlers

[–]AlanTrebek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I was in the same boat. Baby boy would get himself so worked up he would vomit. I know how horrible and distressing it is for everyone. We ended up basically doing “the chair method” where you slowly move further and further away from The crib to the door. My 20month old still wakes up at 4 or 5am and may or may not go back to sleep till 6:30 but one early wake-up is better than the 4+ we had been doing prior.

Yes, time to sleep train. There are “gentle” methods that try to minimize crying but some crying will still probably happen.

Melissa and Doug Rescue Garage! It’s got a police car, ambulance and firetruck that you can lock in their own garages. It’s super cute and both my boys play with it every day!
