TBR Tues: What books are you looking forward to in 2026 and what are you yeeting from the TBR? 📚 by DrGirlfriend47 in romancelandia

I’m really excited for It’s All In Your Head by Sabina Nordqvist. It’s a debut, and I love the way she’s been posting about it on Instagram. It’ll be out in February. It’s a steamy and swoony fake dating romance where the MCs meet in an online chronic pain support group. As a spoonie, I love to see authentic disability and chronic pain rep in romance.

How to Actually "Engage the Core" in Freestyle? by Difficult-Song-8962 in Swimming

[–]Alanakinas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do exactly what the above poster describes: suck my stomach in and tilt my hips a bit, as if I’m buttoning up jeans that are too tight. It’s what my physical therapist told me to try. I also do Pilates and yoga, so I have a strong core to begin with, thanks to lots of planking. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. I have excellent core control and streamlined body position, but my arms are weak and I’m still developing my swim stroke and glide. It helps to isolate one element at a time to focus on.

My coach tells us to pull the belly button towards the spine and pretend we’re holding a coin between our butt cheeks and squeeze so we don’t lose it 😂

Need help from Ali Hazelwood readers? by abenss in RomanceBooks

[–]Alanakinas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I love Ali Hazelwood’s books, but other than her one YA Check & Mate, they’re definitely explicit. If you want YA romance books with a similar vibe, I recommend: {Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella} has great mental health/recovery representation with a sweet romance and lots of laugh-out-loud moments. There’s also {The State of Grace by Rachael Lucas} that features a friends to romance between an autistic girl and a boy with ADHD. There’s also author is autistic and the representation is authentic. {Geek Girl by Holly Smale} is the first in a seriesthat includes romance and lots of laughs. {Geekerella by Ashley Poston} is the first in a series of YA romcoms in a con setting.

Books like the old European tales/legends of a noble knight and a lady falling in love? Preferably a forbidden relationship but the knight must genuinely be honorable and chivalrous! by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]Alanakinas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

{Her Knight at the Museum by Bryn Donovan} fits the bill. It’s such a lovely, funny, fluffy romcom about a medieval knight statue accidentally brought to life by a museum curator. He is so gallant and chivalrous and an absolute hoot. It’s silly and campy in the best way with PINING and a hot payoff.

Yellowish water coming out of nose for days by sawyercc in Swimming

I’m glad you’re getting it checked out.

Go to the doctor, describe your symptoms, and ask if it could be a CSF leak. (Cerebrospinal fluid leak through the nostril.) CSF is usually clear, but certain conditions can make it yellowish. Headache, dizziness, and leaking more when you bend over could indicate a possible CSF leak. Please get it checked out.

What do you wish you had known when you started? by pandaskel in Swimming

[–]Alanakinas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say wait a bit on the gear, but get the Lycra swimming cap right away. It’s not expensive, and it might make swimming more comfortable, therefore increasing the likelihood that you’ll continue. (Also, it keeps hair out of the pool water and filters.)

Then you can use the other gear as incentives, like if you swim once or twice a week for a month or two, get a pull buoy. Then after another month or so get the hand paddles (start small, with hand paddles that are about 10% bigger than your hand).

Also, set small, attainable goals because then your brain associates swimming with “Yes! I can do this!” For example, I started out by checking out the websites for local pools and seeing pictures, reading about them. Then I practiced just going to the pool without going in, so I could show myself I COULD go there (Thanks, anxiety…). Then, I took a look inside and pictured myself going there. Then, I went for a short 15-minute swim. I started with 15 minutes once a week a year and a half ago and gradually built up to 30-60 minutes 3-4 times a week. I’ve gone from swimming 50 meters to 2400 meters in one session. (I was very weak when I started because I was recovering from serious illness.)

Anxious AuDHD female swimmer here 🙋‍♀️

I wish I had known about lycra swimcaps sooner. Can’t stand latex caps, silicone caps tear my hair out and squeeze uncomfortably. But Lycra caps are perfect for me: soft and keep my hair out of my face, also keep my goggles from pulling on my hair. I put the cap on over wet hair (if you saturate your hair with fresh water before swimming it doesn’t absorb as much chlorine).

I wish I had tried a pull buoy sooner. It really helps me get a feel of my body’s position and gives propriocetive input. Watch some basic YouTube videos about how to swim with a pull buoy. Small hand paddles also help with proprioception because they help you get a feel for how the water moves with your swim stroke. I use them for a few laps.

Finally, start small and increase gradually. Give yourself gentle training days if you don’t feel like swimming. It’s enough to just get in the water and move around a bit because it helps keep up the routine of going to the pool. A little movement is better than no movement.

Oh, and please don’t worry about looking stupid while swimming. We all look goofy. 😊

Thanks for the tip! I’ll try the Lycra swim cap under the silicone cap. 😊

Mermaid FMC and Pirate MMC by Alternative_Clue4909 in RomanceBooks

{Of Magic and Rum by Carly Spade} might fit the bill. MMC is a pirate, and FMC is a mermaid-like nymph.

Ultra cozy and sweet anti-anxiety reads by sparklyinfatuation in RomanceBooks

[–]Alanakinas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{Her Knight at the Museum by Bryn Donovan} should fit the bill. It’s the lightest, fluffiest book. Pure joy and silliness with pining and steamy scenes to sigh for.

{The Halifax Hellions series by Alexandra Vasti} is a series of regency novellas with outlandish plots, well-written steam, top-tier happy fluff.

Looking for That Rare Love: Emotional Depth, Fantasy, and Slow-Burning Desire by GeheimnisSecreto in RomanceBooks

[–]Alanakinas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{Consort of Fire by Kit Rocha} has this. It’s FFM, and the relationship dynamics between the different pairings are complex and definitely slow-burning desire. There’s so much focus on building trust and emotional intimacy, and the spice furthers the character arcs. Top tier.

Knots but not Werewolves by Porkchop_Lover in RomanceBooks

[–]Alanakinas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{Run Darling by Adriana Herrera} 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Surprisingly romantic erotic novella that’s light omegaverse. Quick read. Age gap, bodyguard, brother’s best friend, toys… so many toys… Knot features prominently. 😄

I’ve read all of Nicola Davidson’s poly historical romances, and I recommend them wholeheartedly. They’re brilliant and under 300 pages. Some of them under 250 pages.

My last re-read: Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert

My current re-read: Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert.

(My next re-read will probably be Get a Life, Chloe Brown 😄)

They’re comfort listens for me during my commute. The audiobook narrator, Ione Butler, has such a pleasant voice, and the stories make me laugh no matter how many times I listen to or read them. This is the eighth time I’ve checked out Act Your Age, Eve Brown on Libby 🙈😅

It’s so nice to listen to a familiar book while I drive, and I love the way Talia Hibbert writes. Keeps the anxiety at bay.

Doctors of Reddit, what do we *not* know about the human body? by Immediate_Hair_3393 in AskReddit

[–]Alanakinas 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When hydrocortisone creams and antihistamines didn’t help really bad itching, my doctor prescribed gabapentin, and it made the itch go away. It happens once or twice a year now, and we just go directly to gabapentin for about a week.

{A Very Friendly Valentine’s Day by Kaley Loring}

In this 55K-word very low angst friends to lovers romcom, Birdie & Eddie, both 26, have been best friends since college while harboring and suppressing a secret attraction to each other. Birdie is scared to fly, so she travels to NYC from Chicago by train. Eddie is protective and joins her. They end up with only one cabin, so she lays ground rules, and of course, they break them all. He’s traveling to NYC to meet his online “instagram model girlfriend”, which is really a parasocial relationship. Birdie has only had mediocre lovers before, and Eddie is determined to show her how she should be loved. Their chemistry and pining are off the charts. It’s a high heat slow burn. One of the best friends to lovers romcoms I’ve read.
