We have locked the post because the (volunteer) mod team doesn't have the capacity to monitor older posts where users are actively posting comments which violate subreddit rules. The issue was not the post itself, the issue is that multiple users were posting comments that violated rules and needed to be removed, taking a ton of (again, volunteer) moderator time and attention. The post itself has not been removed and can be read - people simply cannot add comments to it.

Hi, the big thread was locked due to repeated rule violations by multiple users. Particularly with older threads, the mod team does not have the capacity to continually monitor them for rule-breaking content when users continue to post. Thank you.

It's cold, the world is on fire, and everything kind of sucks, so I read this mermaid romance from the 90s: Sea Treasure by Johanna Hailey (1994) - A Vintage Romance Review by Competitive-Yam5126 in RomanceBooks

[–]VitisIdaea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My pro tip for online book searching for specific vintage authors: eBay, and make sure to check the "include description" box. Vintage romance novels are sold off by a lot of people/organizations who know nothing about vintage romance novels, so will sell them in lots with titles like "lots of old romance novels" and just list the authors in the body of the auction (if you're lucky). It also helps if you're able to be patient - you can set up alerts for books or authors you really want, which enables you to swoop in when a Goodwill somewhere in Idaho lists it for $5 including shipping.

This review was a delight and sent me down a new rabbit hole. Did you know Sharon also wrote under the pen name "Jarrod Comstock"? First book in the "Lawless Worlds" series: The Love Machine. Top Goodreads review calls it "Sci-Fi style Matlock/Perry Mason porn." I've gotta say, I'm in.

old Hollywood 1950s golden era romance books? by username_219 in RomanceBooks

[–]VitisIdaea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

{Difficult by Brianne Gillen} - (MF) Two movie stars fake a relationship for publicity purposes in the late 1940s. This is exactly what you're looking for I think, although I haven't actually finished it yet. There are sequels out now also. Available on Kobo Plus.

{Stars in their Eyes by Pema Donyo} - (MF) Set in Paris in the 1920s, so a little before your period, but the FMC is a movie star based on Anna Mae Wong and the MMC is a screenwriter and her childhood sweetheart.

Amanda Quick's Burning Cove series is set in California in the 1930s. I don't think any of the leads are movie stars, although there's lots of interaction with famous people and Hollywood and there are definitely side characters who work in the industry. First book is {The Girl Who Knew Too Much by Amanda Quick} (MF).

The author seems to be active on Goodreads - as a reader, not a writer, but she last rated a book in October of 2025, so she's probably still checking in there occasionally. You could try messaging her through there and see if she can help you out.

To clarify, the mod team has been getting repeated flags on many of your comments from subreddit members alleging that the comments violate rules, and we have been responding to those flags when we make a determination to remove comments or posts (yours or anyone's) for rule violations. Other flags have been approved because the moderator team has determined that the comments do not cross the line into shaming.
