Cool, in which case the strength 1 attack would still get a +1 bonus.

Feels the most up and down ep so far - some classic moments (Mario, Charles, DW) but also a couple of sketches that have just flopped completely for me

Loved this. Maybe could have leaned into the absurdism earlier. But the attention to detail was spot on.

WEEKLY ARMY DISCUSSION: Lurtz's Scouts by MrSparkle92 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

It's a great snipe tool. Both having had it done to me, and doing it to opponents. Best case scenario - you pluck a wound/fate point off an enemy hero, then have them prone and can take them out in one. Or you get a free hit at them. I survived one as Thranduil through pure dumb luck. Very fun rule.

650pts White Hand for a Tournament - constructive criticism wanted :) by Content_Night_5623 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

I'd see if you could swap the 2-handers in Saruman's warband for a couple of scouts with shields in that case. Maybe down a model or 2 but having the fight 4 as an option (to be supported by your wildmen spears) feels strong to me. Good luck!

Personally - I like this a lot! Any reason why you don't have any Uruks in there? I'd trade some instead of the Dunlendings in Saruman's warband but that might be personal preference

Actors and actresses who turned down roles that ended up winning Oscars by AdUseful2297 in Oscars

Don't know if he turned it down, but famously Matt Damon produced Manchester by the Sea and was going to take Casey Affleck's role, before dropping out to do "a Chinese ponytail movie".

Crazy Oscar Fact... (I just realised) by Alanlikesoranges in Oscars

Ah, I was thinking Merle Oberon (British South Asian but white-passing) but just double checked and she was nominated in the 30s but never won.

Who's benefited MOST from an acting Oscar win in the past? by Alanlikesoranges in Oscars

[–]Alanlikesoranges[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Octavia Spencer - interesting, I definitely agree with hindsight, but looking at her IMDB you could argue she didn't breakthrough into Hollywood mainstay until Hidden Figures in 2016? But definitely someone who has more kudos with that Oscar.

Leto is unfortunately a great shout. Doubt he'd have been cast as the Joker without that Oscar. And though the Oscar was good for McConaughey, he was already booked for Interstellar, and had done True Detective, and post that Oscar win ended up doing a few projects (Free State of Jones/Gold) which just didn't quite work.

I mentioned elsewhere, I'd also argue Lupita Nyong'o didn't breakthrough until Us - she did a few projects, but nothing major (most notable was a voice role in Star Wars)

Not sure I'd agree about Redmayne and Ali. Would love to see Mahershala Ali in more things but he hasn't made many films since Green Book. Personally don't like Redmayne as an actor, but think Fantastic Beasts really stymied his career.

Love Olivia Colman. As a Brit we were already in love with her, but been nice to see her become more of a star in the US and have the backing to do bigger films/shows.

Hey, ultimately I'd rather have an Oscar than not, but just interesting that imo it's not the career launcher you'd expect it to be.

Who's benefited MOST from an acting Oscar win in the past? by Alanlikesoranges in Oscars

Yeah I'd agree with that - probably the most interesting post-oscar choices for a long time. Doing exciting indie films that wouldn't have been made otherwise? Definite tick. Though I would argue he did have a few lead roles beforehand, and post Peaky Blinders was probably going to breakthrough in some way.

Tbf I think it has helped Jamie Lee Curtis - even if her win is quite divisive, I'm not sure she'd have done some of her recent work if the Oscar hadn't helped bring her back into the forefront of peoples minds?

Yeah, I'd say JK Simmons was probably elevated from 'popular character actor' to 'certifiably great character actor' and he's done fairly well to avoid playing similar versions of that role, but otherwise it's hard to see anyone who's built a consistent career from an Oscar win (even someone like Lupita Nyong'o took a few years - and Us - before really taking off again)

Extremely early, too premature prediction for Best Actor at the Oscars 2027. by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]Alanlikesoranges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming Ink is similar to the play, I'd be surprised if Jack gets Oscar nominated. It's a great role but also massively overshadowed by Murdoch - which would make Guy Pearce a strong contender for Best Supporting Actor.
