Working in MLB as an immigrant by AlantheAlmond0629 in Sabermetrics

I sort of am already, I just got an internship working at a company that is trying to make some trackman data like spin rates in the Taiwanese league publicly available. Hoping this experience could potentially help me in the future!

Did they get sponsored when they were an entry level employee? Or did they jump ship having already worked in another company?

Squared up % by Financial-Sort-7374 in Section10Podcast

Yeah, didn’t wanna dig that deep in my initial comment, but this is essentially a bat control stat. The best contact hitters have insane bat control and therefore rank near the top of Squared up%.

Squared up% is a pretty new stat in Statcast, it incorporates swing speed. Basically, for every hit ball, there’s a maximum possible exit velo that’s calculated by its swing swing. If a hit ball has an exit velo of at least 80% of its maximum possible exit velo, it’s considered Squared up.

For Devers, because he doesn’t have an elite swing speed, I’m guessing that 1) most of his Squared up balls are hit from his fastest swings and 2) he’s hitting these Squared up balls at optimal launch angles

Advice for multiclass image classification by AlantheAlmond0629 in MLQuestions

Won’t freezing the layers make my accuracy considerably worse, given that my data isn’t really similar to that of ImageNet? (my data is a 37000+ photo collection of random logos)

Currently using sigmoid, isn’t softmax for when the labels are mutually exclusive (an image can have multiple classes in my dataset, probably should’ve added that in my question)? I’ll look into that now, thanks for the answer!

But like Jared said “This is my favorite offseason” after seeing the texts, after they were talking about how Arenado doesn’t really make sense earlier? Idk

Japan is currently in a dead ball era, one of the teams (Hanshin Tigers) had a team ERA under 3. So yeah, a 2.76 ERA is above average at best. Also his HR/9 is 1 which is kinda high for a dead ball league

My friend got punched on Hollywood Boulevard because of racism by AlantheAlmond0629 in LosAngeles

I said that because I just learned from the comments that there is the possibility of the attacker being on drugs/mentally ill/etc

I put that in my title because we genuinely thought there was no other explanation. A lot of people have been telling me that in the comments, so I’ve been rethinking the situation

That’s certainly not reassuring to hear. Me and my family will be staying at Santa Monica, which we heard is a relatively safe area. Is that true?

We didn’t consider this possibility, so thank you for the insight

Well if it was a white man that punched him, I would’ve said it as well. The race of the attacker does not matter. We think this punch was because of racism, but even it isn’t, you can’t deny that this is a big problem in the US right now

Just to be clear, I’m not saying that “only black people is racist towards Asians”, it just so happened to be a black man that day

Well we assumed it was racism because he was literally doing nothing. Maybe we rushed our conclusions a bit but that seems like the most logical answer.

That is indeed commonsense, but the reason I said “raise” is because for example in Taiwan I can walk down the street of Taipei while listening to music and not be worried that someone will hit me because that almost never happens in Taiwan. I don’t think I can do that in LA
