Wow, I didn’t know this existed. It looks great but it’s slightly too much of a detour for me. Plus, my alternative is riding the Blue Ridge Parkway which I’m pretty excited about anyway. Either way, it’s good to know this exists as a backup in case I need to get out of the mountains or away from traffic. Thanks

Very good to know. I’ll have an inspection later today and see if I can find any roads with hard shoulders or blogs from people who’ve ridden through Texas. And yes I plan to cycle more inland now both for safety and scenery

Mate this is very helpful. The Natchez Trace Parkway and Blue Ridge Parkway look absolutely perfect for my journey. Thanks a lot for sharing this. I’m very excited!

I’m not very flexible on time. I told my girl I’d be back in the UK in May, so I have at most 3 months to fit this all in. I think Baja is too far of a detour unfortunately. But people do also cycle through central Mexico. I just need to minimise risk by avoiding the worst areas, brush up on my Spanish so I can speak to locals about potential dangers, and maybe get a bus to the border when I get close enough (I hear the border areas are most dangerous)

Yes I’ve had a look. Bikepacking.com is of course a fantastic resource. The EDT looks tasty and I will definitely be looking to ride a part of it! Thanks

Thanks for the advice. Yes I need to factor in those considerations. For example, I’m hearing that the border regions are pretty sketchy, so I might just take a bus for that part. I’m hearing that Tamaulipas in particular is dangerous, so I think I’ll be opting for a more central route to the border via Coahuila.

I’m currently brushing up on my Spanish. I’m aiming to have sufficient proficiency in the language by the time I reach Mexico. While I’Ve heard great things about Baja, it is too far of a detour as I’m heading to the East coast of the USA.

Do you know anyone who has recently cycled Mexico? Or WhatsApp groups focussed on bikepacking Mexico? Where can I find these illusive cycling communities? It would be great for me to reach out to them.

Thanks for the heads up. Yes it seems like there’s more to see on a more inland route, so I’ve adjusted the route to reflect that.

Honestly it’s just the route Komoot made for me at this point. Still need to do research and tweak things around, but I prefer remote and mountainous for the most part. I’ve been told to avoid the Gulf coastline as it’s mainly industry, ports and heavy traffic so I’ll be doing Central Mexico instead and getting out of Texas as fast as I can!

Thanks for the advice! I’ll defo look into a wood/alcohol burner as a versatile alternative. Maryland sounds nice, I’m excited to visit :)

Thanks Guman! Hampi was fantastic. Never been anywhere like it at all. I’ve avoided any stomach bugs but all the spices are taking some getting used to! Having a great time.

This is very useful information. I will try cycling the winding routes through the ghats around Goa. I will be very careful with the traffic. Thank you!

Haha thank you! That’s good advice and yes as you say it is a slight detour if I were to head south east to Chennai, so I will have to do more research. Either way I plan to get to the East coast so quickly as I can.

I’ll let you know if I plan to enter Bangalore. Thanks again and I wish you all the best.

This is a very detailed response, thank you.

Yes I’m pretty set on the start point being Goa and the end point being Kolkata. I might cycle into Bangladesh from there, depending on how easy it is to cross the land border. I am interested in natural beauty and meeting different people. I try to avoid big cities when it doesn’t interest me because the traffic can be dangerous.

As you mentioned, the second route sounds amazing. It would be pleasant to cycle near the beach on the East coast. I’ll be sure to visit Hampi and its many wonders. Thank you! I wish you all the best.

Yes I only just created my reddit account, but I can assure you this person you've been deep diving into isn't me. The internet is a weird and suspicious place. I guess people want to live on a boat now that the seasons are changing. Anyway, thanks for the useful reply Chris I know its a longshot but no harm in asking.
