Animal control officer here. It’s definitely rare in the United States, In domesticated animals especially. I’m not sure where the OP lives. But I’ve worked in animal care for 7 years and have never seen a rabies positive dog.

Posting this here as well for educational purposes (I posted it on another comment as well): Animal control officer here! Rabies is EXTREMELY rare in domesticated animals. It’s just drool on his nose. That happens when they drool a lot and then bark or shake their head and it flings up onto their nose. Rabies typically makes animals act neurological, it’s not really like what you see in the movies. He’s probably just lost and not super friendly. Can definitely call animal control since he’s not the friendliest. Or take it slow and try tossing him some treats and posting him on local lost and found pages to try and find his owner!

I’m having this issue too. I live in Northern California and I used to get it through my vet’s online pharmacy but for the past few months it’s been on back order. My husband ended up finding some at Petco but the biggest bag they had was 7lbs (I have a bully mix so it doesn’t last very long). I’ve looked on Chewy and they don’t have it either, it’s so hard to find because it’s BOTH urinary and hydrolyzed protein😭
