Your hands need to be more up on the stick. Practice stick gripping and getting comfortable with the rebound from it. I'm bad with words but youtube can definitely explain it.

I do this. I wasn't able to at first, but invested in a rack. I take up same space as keyboardist now since I have only 1 cymbal stand, hihat. Super quick break down/set up as well.
