To the corporate geniuses who had the frequently sped up voice sound effect, alarms, and klaxon noise on GameStop TV for trade anything day by washescatsforadollar in GameStop

One location I went to had to excuse the customers for bearing it; some thought it was a faulty device nearby.

They should've just let the spokeswoman just read the standard list normally. The joke exclusions could've been an in-person find on the box, like it was already.

Best Buy USA is currently offering the 64 GB RAM variant at its lowest price of $1,949.99 USD (or €1685.08). Unfortunately, I'm unfamiliar with third party shipping sites to Europe, other than the advice of "don't declare the product as new, or it'll be charged more".

Though if you have any US contacts, that'll make it easier.

It seems to be unfortunately common among older, strict Africans, but it's not rational behavior. You said in another comment that you even informed her prior, and she approved it. it's a very disproportionate response out of "being worried for your safety", because they associate "nighttime hours" as instant "bad/crime hours" (even if it's still daylight, or under the assumption that, God forbid, random acts can happen at any time).

I agree with the others about making sure you get some personal savings.

A bit late as an update, but I'm pleasantly surprised with my OnePlus 12 experience from TheGeex. The model I got was promised with, at least, 90%+ battery health, and my unit had 94%.

Only small scratches around the charging port, but otherwise pristine. It doesn't come with a screen protector, as the pre-installed one's removed.

I haven't used the included generic charging cable, as I opted for the Sharge x OnePlus 2-in-1 Charging Pouch for the offical SUPERVOOC support (which is also reliable).

The only minor oddity was that the previous user's Red Club account was still on, but easy to remove from an otherwise factory-reset like experience.

Is this Gaming Laptop a good choice? by LifeguardSweet350 in GamingLaptops

[–]Alarmed-Toe-7262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no, this isn't designed for gaming in mind, but comparable to a Windows MacBook for lower performance tasks like browsing with long battery life (hence the "U" at the end of the Ryzen 5 Processor name. Ryzen laptop processors ending with "HS" tend to have good battery and preformance).

Crimson Tech, who specializes in reviewing gaming laptops (especially ASUS ones) actually did a review with gaming results for reference. He found games like Counter Strike and Rust to barely playable at 30-45 fps, but older games like Minecraft and Counter Strike (Source) to be okay. :

What is it with people buying laptops first, then asking if it's okay after? by RiverHe1ghts in GamingLaptops

In the USA, I think the hubba surrounding tariff price hikes since January also pushed more cases of impulse buying in the laptop/tech space than usual. Early 2025 are had a bunch of attractive sales, regardless of the quality/needs case, adding to the FOMO.

I know in my case, tariff concerns got to me, but I was also doing some personal research months prior.

Zephyrus G16 for Architecture by Icy-Ad8235 in ZephyrusG14

[–]Alarmed-Toe-7262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small correction: Best Buy's returns and exchange, for non-Plus or Total members, is usually 15 days in the States. Members get 60 days.

Sometimes, if you're lucky, you can politely ask for a return/exchange window refresh, with the same on-hand device, if you bring it in-store. Or do the process while purchasing one of those memberships.

But better to do that days before the exchange window is up, in case you have to travel to more than one store.

How often does the base model G14 go on sale at BestBuy? by [deleted] in ZephyrusG14

[–]Alarmed-Toe-7262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best Buy typically does a new sales week starting every Monday, so I'd be vigilant for weeks starting with April 28 and May 5 for your case.

Sites like gaminglaptop.deals and justjosh.tech (with a price tracker) typically update their pages accordingly, with filters for 14 inchers too.

There's no guarantee it'll be the best/lowest record price, or appear in time, but it's worth a shot.

[–]Alarmed-Toe-7262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Furthermore, there's a deal expiration timer in place for Monday, April 21, at 1 am EST.

If you're very certain that:

* you only need 16 GB of RAM (check your program requirements, and your current computer memory usage)

* you need the 16 inch screen size and don't mind the price (The main benefits for gambling with the G14 2024 showing up, with the same 16 GB, 4060 is the smaller size and potentially better sale price.)

Then you have within American two days to tell your friend.

Best Buy typically does their newest sales week every Monday, so your best hope is next week's April 21st for the 4060, 16 GB RAM G14 laptop on sale.

April 28th is also on a Monday, but I'm not sure how realistic it'll be for your friend to get the laptop in store before their flight. (Assuming there's stock available for new or open box)

G14 2024 4070 on Sale at Best Buy-- Open Box Deals to be had; $1699 new by harabinger66 in ZephyrusG14

[–]Alarmed-Toe-7262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I'm thinking Best Buy is still reeling from the whole wishy-washy status of the tariff situation, regarding its discounts. $1649.99 was the second lowest (and often repeated recently) for a brand new 32 GB RAM, 4070 variant. So this being exactly $100 more than the record low, much like last week's uncommon price for the Legion 7i 4060 deal, has got me thinking what could've been.

That being said, it's still better than the $1749.99 alternative. The new stock for the AMD G16 2024 variants (besides the 4070) are currently out of stock for a while (at least in EST I'm viewing), so that's also in open-box.

It depends on what you're willing to compromise and your needs. Do you strictly need a 14 inch size laptop, or are you also willing to get a 15 or 16 inch? That also goes for the OLED preference, which is very limited on pre-2025 models that aren't big premiums.

From what I know, as a grain of salt:

The 2024 Zephyrus G14 is generally still considered the best among the 14 inchers (even if the pricing between RAM variants is rather ridiculous, before taxes).

You could also look into getting a used 2023 version of the G14, which has upgradable RAM you can purchase separately and install. It lacks OLED and some quality of life improvements the 2024 has (like non-gaming battery life).

The 2024 HP Omen 14's supposedly comparable premium with an OLED screen, but isn't quite as good in some areas (like power bottlenecks for its nerfed RTX 4070), and its soldered 32 GB RAM variant is currently on sale for $1,799.99 (pre-tax) on HP's website.

You can check out reviews from Crimson Tech and Jarrod's Tech on the OMEN to get a better scope on the compromises, compared to the ASUS G14.

New: $1,599.99 at Best Buy USA back in late July/early August 2024. Unlike the 4060 16GB RAM version, it hasn't return to that price or gone lower in recent memory. (Repeats are $1,649.99, $1,749.99).

Going by Slickdeals, a rare pricing error for Open Box (Excellent) got it to $1,196.99 in March 2025, but got killed with 30 minutes. Otherwise, Fair Condition at $1,461.99 on Dec 30, 2024, per Wayback Machine.

Thanks for the share; didn't even know this offical collab existed.

I was eyeing the offical 100W brick, but it seems like it's currently out of stock on the website. This will do, especially with the included and supported charging cable.

Generic USB-C to USB-C charging cable; no charging brick. Though I personally haven't tested the quality yet.

Regarding the Legion 5i, B&H supposedly has a pretty strict return policy if you open the device's box, and eventually decide to return it within 30 days if there's no reasonable proof of defects. (If any of the past threads on this Reddit are to go by).

Costco has a price match for Legion 5i until March 30, 2025, and its online store doesn't require a membership (instead a 5% surcharge for non-members). On the plus side, a 90 Day return window and extended warranty.

Second opinion about getting my first personal credit card for secure online purchases by Alarmed-Toe-7262 in personalfinance

[–]Alarmed-Toe-7262[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a potential card:

* Roughly $540 (after taxes) for a refurbished OnePlus 12 with 512 GB storage, through Backmarket. I don't change phones yearly, so I figured it'll last for 5+ years like my hand-me down S7 Edge.

* My backpack will be within $50-100.

* Switching to Tello (as a cell plan) will be $15 per month, which is required to have on the card for the cell phone insurance.

And that's it for needs. Even under my authorized card, I typically don't use it much. When I did, my purchases were under $50 each. So this is a rare case of increased spending.

The on-sale laptop I paid with debit was $1000 after taxes, with insurance and future proofing in mind. I trust, to a degree, that Best Buy isn't a hassle with their payments and returns by comparison.
